“민병덕 의원의 지난 4년을 평가한다면 ‘민생을 위해서 몸을 던지고 모든 것을 바쳤던 사람’이다.”

지난 1월 6일 오후 더그레이스 켈리웨딩홀에서 열린 민병덕 의원의 책 ‘우리동네 국회의원 일 잘하는 민병덕’ 출판기념회에서 축사에 나선 이소영 의원은 이렇게 민병덕 의원을 평했다.

이소영 의원은 “국회의원 300명 중에 가장 자주 전화를 하는 사람이 민병덕 의원”이라며“내가 아는 모든 사람 중에 가장 지혜롭고 총명한 사람이기 때문”이라고 말했다.

그는 이어 “민병덕 의원은 아주 특별한 정치인이다. 많은 정치인이 민생에 대해서 말한다. 그러나 민생 문제를 가지고 자기 몸을 던지고 모든 것을 바치는 정치인은 아주 드물고 귀하다”며, “우리가 한 번도 경험해보지 못했던 코로나 사태를 맞이해 ‘국가가 빚을 지더라도 국민이 빚을 지게 하면 안된다’고 코로나 손실보상법을 가장 먼저 입안하고 정치인들을 설득했던 사람이 바로 민병덕이다. 대한민국에 민병덕 같은 국회의원이 있어서 희망이 있고 미래가 밝다고 굳게 믿고 있다. 민병덕 의원은 깊이가 있는 정치인이고 정말 준비된 정치인이고 앞으로 큰 정치인, 대한민국의 큰 재목이 될 그런 분이다. 민병덕 의원의 깊이와 능력과 가능성을 알아보는 혜안을 가진 동안 갑의 시민들에게 감사드린다. 저도 민병덕 의원에게 많이 배우고 늘 곁에서 함께하면서 민병덕 같은 정치를 하도록 하겠다”고 말했다.

이어서 축사에 나선 이탄희 의원은 “최근에 어떤 자리에서 농담을 들었다”며 민병덕 의원을 포함해 국회의원 6명이 올라와 있는 단상에서 이야기를 이끌어갔다.

“국회의원 300명이 타고 있는 배가 침몰할 때 국민 여러분이 세금으로 여섯 개의 조명조끼를 구입해서 여섯 명만 살릴 수 있다면 여기에 있는 여섯 명을 다 살려 줄 것이다. 그런데 만약 단 한 명만 살릴 수 있고 저에게 단 하나의 구명조끼가 주어져 있다면 저는 조금도 망설이지 않고 그걸 민병덕 의원에게 전해주겠다. 제가 민병덕 의원을 너무 좋아하고 따르는 사람이어서가 아니고 민병덕이라는 사람이 우리나라에 너무 소중하기 때문이다. 너무 희소하기 때문이다. 요즘 우리 정치가 길을 잃고 있다. 싸움의 목적이 없어져가고 있다. 면도칼이 망치가 되고, 망치가 흉기가 됐다. 증오가 판을 치고, 원래 우리가 정치를 하는 이유였던 사람을 지키기 위한 정치가 점점 희소해지고 있다. 여러분이 좋아하는 여기 민병덕은 사람을 지키는 정치를 하고 있다. 죽이는 정치가 아니라 지키는 정치를 하고 있다. 민병덕이 여러분을 지키는 정치를 하는 만큼 여러분들도 민병덕을 지켜 달라. 저 같은 후배들도, 젊은 정치인들도 민병덕을 지키고, 정치를 지키고 대한민국을 지키겠다.”

이날 민병덕 의원은 “‘우리 동네 국회의원, 일 잘하는 민병덕’에서 일을 잘한다는 것이 무슨 뜻일까?” 스스로 질문을 던지며, “국회의원은 지역에서 뽑은 전 국민의 대표다. 지역을 위해서도 일을 해야 하지만 전 국민을 위해서도 일을 해야 한다”며, 자신이 지역을 위해서 한 일, 전 국민을 위해서 한 일들을 소개하고 책과 관련한 토크콘서트도 진행했다.

그의 책 ‘우리 동네 국회의원, 일 잘하는 민병덕’에는 세계 최초로 코로나손실보상법을 발의해서 청와대 앞 1인 시위 등을 통해 통과시키기까지의 지난한 과정, ‘금리가 민생’이라며 금리인하를 위해 한 노력 등이 자세히 나와 있다.

“He is a person who threw himself and sacrificed everything for the people’s livelihood.”

Evaluation of Rep. Lee So-young at the publication ceremony of ‘Min Byeong-deok, a member of the National Assembly in our neighborhood who is good at his work’

“If we were to evaluate Rep. Min Byeong-deok’s past four years, he was ‘a person who threw himself and sacrificed everything for the people’s livelihood.’”

Rep. Lee So-young, who gave a congratulatory speech at the publication ceremony of Rep. Min Byeong-deok's book ‘Our Neighborhood National Assembly Member, Min Byeong-deok, who is good at his job’, held at The Grace Kelly Wedding Hall on the afternoon of January 6th, commented on Rep. Min Byeong-deok as follows.

Representative Lee So-young said, “Out of the 300 members of the National Assembly, the person I call most often is Representative Min Byeong-deok,” she said, “because he is the wisest and most intelligent person of all the people I know.”

He continued, “Rep. Min Byeong-deok is a very special politician. Many politicians talk about people's livelihood. However, politicians who throw themselves and give everything for the people's livelihood are very rare and precious,” he said. “In the face of the Corona crisis, which we have never experienced before, we said, ‘Even if the country is in debt, the people should not be in debt.’ The person who first drafted the compensation law and persuaded politicians was Min Byeong-deok. I firmly believe that there is hope and a bright future in Korea because there are National Assembly members like Min Byeong-deok. Representative Min Byeong-deok is a politician with depth, a truly prepared politician, and a person who will become a great politician and a great influence in the Republic of Korea in the future. I am grateful to the citizens of Dongan Gap for having the insight to recognize Rep. Min Byeong-deok's depth, ability, and potential. “I will also learn a lot from Rep. Min Byeong-deok, and I will always be by his side and pursue politics like Min Byeong-deok,” he said.

Rep. Lee Tan-hee, who then gave a congratulatory speech, said, “Recently I heard a joke at a certain place,” and led the conversation from the podium where six National Assembly members, including Rep. Min Byeong-deok, were standing.

“When a ship with 300 members of the National Assembly sinks, if you, the citizens, can save just six people by purchasing six lighting vests with your taxes, we will save all six people here. However, if I can save just one person and I am given only one life jacket, I will not hesitate at all and give it to Rep. Min Byeong-deok. It is not because I like and follow Rep. Min Byeong-deok so much, but because a person named Min Byeong-deok is so precious to our country. Because he is so rare. These days, our politics is losing its way. The purpose of the fight is disappearing. The razor became a hammer, and the hammer became a weapon. Hatred is rampant, and politics to protect people, which was the original reason we engage in politics, is becoming increasingly rare. Min Byeong-deok, whom everyone likes, is doing politics to protect people. He is doing the politics of protecting, not the politics of killing. Please protect Min Byeong-deok as much as he does politics to protect you. “My juniors and young politicians will protect Min Byeong-deok, protect politics, and protect the Republic of Korea.”

On this day, Rep. Min Byeong-deok asked, “What does it mean to do a good job in ‘Our local National Assembly member, Min Byeong-deok, who does a good job?’ He asked himself a question, saying, “Members of the National Assembly are representatives of the entire people elected by the region. “He must work for the region, but he must also work for the entire nation,” he said, introducing what he did for the region and the nation as a whole, and also conducted a talk concert related to the book.

In his book, 'Our Neighborhood National Assembly Member, Min Byeong-deok, who does a good job', he describes the arduous process of proposing the world's first Corona Loss Compensation Act and passing it through a one-person protest in front of the Blue House, and the efforts he made to lower interest rates, claiming that 'interest rates are the people's livelihood'.
