의왕시(시장 김성제)가 지난 3월 5일 시청 중회의실에서 개최한 ‘의왕문화재단 설립 타당성 검토 결과보고회에서 의왕문화재단의 설립이 투자 및 사업의 적정성, 설립계획의 적정성, 기대효과 영역에서 ‘타당성 있음’으로 최종 평가됐다.

의왕시는 지난해 3월부터 1년간 문화예술의 종합적 진흥, 지역 문화콘텐츠 구축 등과 관련한 의왕문화재단의 설립 필요성을 종합적으로 분석하기 위해 (재)경기연구원을 통해 타당성을 검토 연구를 추진해 왔다.

이날 결과보고회에서 참석자들은 의왕문화재단 설립 타당성 검토 결과를 공유하고 문화재단의 필요성 및 향후 재단 설립 방향을 논의했다.

특히, 타당성 검토 과정에서 의왕시민을 대상으로 실시한 설문조사에서 응답자의 약 68.3%가 문화재단 설립의 필요성에 공감했다. 설립이 필요한 이유로는“지역 차원에서 높아지는 주민들의 문화욕구 충족”이 가장 높게 나타났다.

의왕시는 재단 설립을 위한 구체적인 로드맵을 마련하고 관련 예산 확보 등의 설립 절차를 차질 없이 진행할 예정이며, 연내 출범을 목표로 △ 조례 제정 및 의회 승인 △ 법인 설립 인가 △ 임원진 구성 등을 추진할 계획이다.
