안양시민들이 안양지역의 철도 지하화 선도사업 미선정에 반발해 오는 3월 13일 오후 5시 경부선 안양역 광장에서 경부선 철도 지하화를 촉구하는 시민대회를 열기로 했다.

‘경부선 철도 지하화 안양 추진위원회(위원장 김의중)’는 이날 소음, 분진 등으로 삶의 질을 떨어뜨리고 있는 경부선을 지하화해달라는 성명서를 발표할 예정이다.

안양시의 경부선 구간은 석수역에서 명학역까지 4개 역에 약 7.5킬로미터.

이날 시민대회에는 선도사업을 기대했던 안양시민들, 각동의 주민대표 등 350여명이 참여해 지하화 촉구에 나설 것으로 알려졌다.

김의중 경부선 철도 지하화 안양 추진위원장은 “안양의 경부선 철도 지하화는 도시개발의 문제이기 전에, 주민 생활, 삶의 질을 개선하는 문제”라며, “안양시가 인근 6개 지자체와 연대하며 2012년부터 추진해왔고, 이를 염원하며 가장 오랫동안 기다려온 사람들이 바로, 안양시민들”이라고 말했다.

김 위원장은 “‘안양시의 경부선 철도 지하화가 이뤄지지 않으면 경부선 지하화는 없다’는 각오로 시민대회를 준비했고 철도 지하화 종합계획에 안양시가 포함되고 실현될 때까지 할 수 있는 역할을 해나가겠다”고 덧붙였다.

철도 지하화 선도사업 대상구간에 안양시가 미선정되면서, 안양시(2월 20일)와 안양시의회(2월 24일)는 기자회견을 열고 경부선 철도 지하화의 당위성을 강조하고 안양시의 경부선 지하화를 촉구한 데에 이어, 시민들까지 동참하면서 ‘안양시 경부선 철도 지하화’에 대한 관심이 더욱 뜨거워질 전망이다.
