국회 외교통일위원회 더불어민주당 이재정 의원(안양동안을)이 외교부가 제출한 윤석열 대통령 내외 해외순방 시 영부인 접견실 현황 자료를 분석해 2023년 7월 해외 순방 도중 김건희씨의 명품쇼핑이 적발된 이후부터 전례없는 영부인 접견실이 실제 설치·운영됐음을 밝혀냈다.

이와 관련 이재정 의원은 “하루빨리 김건희씨만을 위한 밀실 안에서 어떤 불법행위가 있었는지 철저하게 밝혀야 한다”며, “실제 순방에서 영부인 접견실이 운영되었음에도 불구하고 모르쇠로 일관하는 외교부 역시 철저한 조사를 통해 정말 패싱당했는지, 아니면 불법행위를 조력했음을 감추려는 의도인지 확인해야 한다”고 강조했다.

지난 2023년 7월 김건희씨는 윤석열 대통령과 동참한 NATO 순방 시 리투아니아에서 명품매장을 방문, 명품 쇼핑을 한 것이 드러나 국민적 비난을 자초했다.

영부인 접견실은 리투아니아 순방 이후 실시된 해외 순방부터 설치·운영된 것으로 나타나 영부인 접견실이 해외 순방 과정에서 명품쇼핑을 감추려는 용도로 사용된 것이 아니냐는 세간의 의혹이 더욱 짙어지고 있다.

외교부가 제출한 자료에 따르면 명품쇼핑이 적발된 2023년 7월부터 2024년 6월까지 실시된 운석열 전 대통령 부부의 해외 순방 과정에서 인도네시아, 영국, 프랑스, 독일, 덴마크, 투르크메니스탄 등 6개국에서 영부인 접견실 설치시도가 있었다. 영부인 접견실을 준비했다가 순방이 취소돼 운영되지 못한 독일과 덴마크를 제외한 4개국 순방 시에는 실제 영부인 접견실이 설치·운영된 것으로 나타났다.

외교부는 전례없는 영부인 접견실 설치·운영에 대해 당시 어떤 목적과 업무를 진행했는지에 대해 알지 못한다는 입장으로 영부인 접견실이 명품 구입 및 김건희씨의 사적 외교에 사용된 것이 아니냐는 의혹이 풀리지 않는 상황이다.
