현장에서 도정 현안을 점검하고 도민들의 목소리를 듣는 민생경제 현장투어를 진행 중인 김동연 지사는 4일 오후 21번째 ‘민생경제 현장투어’ 현장으로 전국 최고의 동물복지시설로 인정받은 반려마루(여주)를 찾아 운영 상황을 점검하고 반려동물 입양 가족들과 간담회를 가졌다.

김 지사는 “지사 취임하고 대한민국에서 처음으로 동물복지국을 만들었고 유기견뿐만 아니라 일반 강아지 키우시는 분들도 와서 마음껏 뛰어놀고 무지개다리 건널 때 장례도 제대로 했으면 좋겠다는 바람을 가졌다”면서 “반려동물의 만남(입양)부터 놀이, 교육, 장례까지 다 하는, A부터 Z까지 다 하는 시설인 반려마루가 여주에 만들어졌다. 반려동물 장례시설도 준공이 돼서 1월부터 가동할 예정이라고 하니 너무 다행이다”라고 말했다.

이어 그는 “경기도는 기후위기와 사회적 경제 등 여러 면에서 적극적으로 하고 있는데, 동물복지에 있어서도 가장 앞서나가고 있다”며 “도민들이 그 뜻을 알아주고, 우리 ‘댕댕이’들과 행복하게 지냈으면 좋겠다”고 덧붙였다.

김 지사는 올해 7월 준공된 반려마루 도민편익시설(반려견 스포츠 운동장, 놀이터 등)을 현장 점검하고, 반려견 스포츠 경기(어질리티) 훈련을 참관했다. 이어 반려견 생활미용 특강에 참여하고, 올해 9월 개관한 반려동물산업 전시 홍보관을 참관했다. 홍보관에서는 경기도 반려동물산업 중소·창업기업 제품 및 브랜드 홍보 등 판로 지원을 위한 상설 전시가 이뤄지고 있다. 끝으로 반려마루와 관련해 교육생, 입양자, 자원봉사자, 반려산업 중소기업 대표 등과의 소통 차담회를 열고, 의견을 청취했다.

2023년 개관한 반려마루는 경기도가 조성한 전국 최대 규모의 반려동물 복합문화시설이다. 부지면적 16만 4932㎡에 문화센터, 동물 보호·입양동, 추모관, 놀이터를 비롯한 도민편익시설 등을 배치했다. 각 시설에서는 유기동물 선발·보호 및 입양 활성화, 동물병원 운영, 반려동물 문화 교육과 관련 행사 등을 수행하고 있다.

지난 9월 26일 ‘제1회 동물보호의 날’ 기념행사에서 반려마루 여주와 화성이 입양문화 확산과 보호동물 복지 향상에 기여한 공로를 인정받아 농림축산식품부 장관 기관표창을 받기도 했다.

Governor Kim Dong-yeon, currently conducting a field trip to examine provincial government issues and hear the voices of residents, visited Banryomaru (Yeoju), recognized as the nation's best animal welfare facility, on the afternoon of the 4th as the 21st stop of his "People's Economy Field Tour." He inspected the facility's operations and held a meeting with pet adopters.

Governor Kim stated, "Since taking office, I've created the first animal welfare bureau in Korea. I hope that not only abandoned dogs but also regular dog owners can come and play freely, and that they can also have proper funerals when they cross the rainbow bridge." He continued, "Banryomaru, a complete facility that handles everything from pet adoption (adoption) to play, education, and funerals, has been built in Yeoju. I'm so glad that the pet funeral facility is now complete and scheduled to open in January." He continued, "Gyeonggi Province is actively working on various fronts, including the climate crisis and the social economy, and is also a leader in animal welfare. Governor Kim inspected the Banryeomaru public convenience facility (dog sports field, playground, etc.), which was completed in July of this year, and observed dog sports competitions (agility) training. Banryeomaru, which is slated to open in 2023, is the largest pet cultural complex in the country, built by Gyeonggi Province.
