김성제 의왕시장은 5일 시청 대회의실에서 2026년 신년 기자간담회를 열고 민선 8기 주요 성과와 올해 시정 운영 방향을 설명했다. 이날 간담회에는 100여 명의 언론 관계자가 참석했으며, 약 1시간 동안 질의응답이 이어졌다.

김 시장은 그동안 해결되지 못했던 숙원사업들이 가시화된 점을 주요 성과로 제시했다. 대표적으로 의왕문화예술회관 착공, 인덕원~동탄선과 월곶~판교선 복선전철 착공, 내손중·고 통합학교 개교, 종합병원 유치 등을 언급했다.

이와 함께 초평지구와 청계2지구 기업·투자 유치, 부곡커뮤니티센터 착공, 의왕역~판교 프리미엄버스와 초평동 똑버스 신설, 도로망 확충, 맨발걷기길 조성, 백운호수 생태탐방로 및 공원 개장, 체육·여가시설 확충, 노인 버스 무료승차 지원과 장애인 힐링쉼터 개소 등 생활 밀착형 사업 성과도 설명했다.

교통 분야에서는 위례~과천선 의왕 연장안이 제5차 국가철도망 구축계획에 반영될 수 있도록 총력을 기울이는 한편, 인덕원~동탄선 왕곡역 신설과 국철 1호선 월암역 신설안에 대해서도 관계기관과 협의를 이어가겠다고 밝혔다.

올해 개관 예정인 의왕문화예술회관은 도시 문화의 거점으로 육성하고, 의왕문화재단 설립을 통해 문화도시 기반을 강화하겠다는 구상도 밝혔다.

Uiwang Mayor Kim Seong-je held a New Year's press conference for 2026 in the City Hall conference room on the 5th, outlining the key achievements of his eighth elected term and the direction of his city administration this year.
