안양시가 최근 수도권을 중심으로 대량 발생하고 있는 러브버그(붉은등우단털파리)에 선제적으로 대응하기 위해 친환경 방제 활동을 추진하고 있다고 23일 밝혔다.

시는 이달 초 러브버그 주요 발생 예상 지역인 관악산 일대 약 6,000㎡에 친환경 미생물 방제제(BTI)를 살포했다. BTI는 토양에 자연적으로 존재하는 미생물을 활용해 유충을 제거하는 친환경 방제 방식으로, 현재 기후에너지환경부 주관 실증 연구가 진행 중이며 안양시도 참여하고 있다.

이와 함께 관악산·수리산·와룡산 등산로와 산림 인접 공원에 유인제 포집기 60대(만안구 30대·동안구 30대)를 설치해 6월 중순부터 7월 말까지 운영할 계획이다.

김귀배 안양시 환경국장은 23일 현장을 찾아 유충 방제와 포집기 설치 현황을 점검하고 대응 상황을 살폈다.

러브버그는 매년 6~7월 주로 발생하는 곤충으로 사람을 물거나 질병을 옮기지 않는다. 낙엽 등 유기물 분해에 도움을 주는 익충으로 알려져 있으나 특정 시기에 대량 발생하면 시민 불편을 초래할 수 있다. 성충의 수명이 짧아 대량 발생 후 2~3주가 지나면 개체 수가 자연적으로 감소하는 것으로 알려져 있다.

안양시 관계자는 “러브버그는 해충은 아니지만 대량 발생 시 시민 불편이 발생할 수 있는 만큼 친환경 방제를 실시하고 주요 발생 지역에 대한 모니터링을 강화하고 있다”며 “발생 상황을 지속적으로 살피며 시민 불편을 최소화하겠다”고 말했다.
