최대호 안양시장이 민선 9기 경기도시장군수협의회장에 선출되며 경기도 31개 시·군을 대표하는 지방자치 리더 역할을 맡게 됐다.

안양시는 22일 수원시 영통구 경기도경제과학진흥원 광교홀에서 열린 민선 9기 경기도시장군수협의회 임시회의에서 최대호 시장이 전체 시장·군수의 만장일치 추대로 협의회장에 선출됐다고 밝혔다.

최 시장의 임기는 오는 2028년 6월까지로, 앞으로 경기도 31개 시·군의 공동 현안을 조율하고 지방자치 발전과 지방분권 강화를 위한 협의회를 대표하게 된다.

경기도시장군수협의회는 1996년 출범한 행정협의체로, 시·군 간 교류와 협력을 확대하고 공동 현안에 대한 의견을 모아 지방자치 발전을 도모하는 역할을 수행하고 있다.

최 시장은 당선 인사에서 "경기도민의 삶을 책임지는 시장·군수들의 열정과 기대를 잘 알기에 책임감이 더욱 크다"며 "31개 시·군의 가장 든든한 대변인이 되어 지방분권과 재정자립을 위해 힘쓰고, 마음과 지혜를 나누는 상생의 협의회를 만들어 가겠다"고 밝혔다.
