의왕시가 도시개발과 교통 인프라 확충, 교육·복지·문화 분야의 균형 있는 발전 성과를 인정받으며 전국 최고 수준의 지역 경쟁력을 다시 한번 입증했다.

의왕시는 23일 서울 중구 더플라자호텔 그랜드볼룸에서 열린 ‘2026 한국의 최고 경영대상’ 시상식에서 지역발전 부문 대상을 수상했다고 밝혔다.

조선일보가 주최하고 재정경제부, 과학기술정보통신부, 고용노동부, 보건복지부, 중소벤처기업부가 후원하는 한국의 최고 경영대상은 고객 중심의 혁신경영과 지속가능한 발전을 실현한 기업과 공공기관, 지방자치단체를 선정해 시상하는 권위 있는 상이다.

이번 수상에서 의왕시는 대규모 도시개발사업을 차질 없이 추진하는 한편, 철도 중심의 광역교통망 구축과 교육·문화·복지 정책을 함께 확대하며 도시 경쟁력과 시민 삶의 질을 동시에 높인 점에서 높은 평가를 받았다.

현재 의왕시는 LH와 함께 고천지구, 초평지구, 월암지구, 청계2지구, 의왕군포안산 3기 신도시, 오전왕곡지구 등 6개 대규모 도시개발사업을 추진하고 있으며, 인덕원~동탄선, 월곶~판교선 복선전철, GTX-C 의왕역 정차 사업도 속도를 내며 수도권 핵심 교통도시로의 기반을 다지고 있다.

문화와 교육 분야에서도 시민들의 오랜 숙원사업들이 하나씩 현실화되고 있다.

20여 년간 지역 문화예술계가 기다려온 의왕문화예술회관은 지난해 착공해 올해 하반기 준공을 앞두고 있으며, 내손중고통합학교와 백운호수초중통합학교가 잇따라 개교해 교육 인프라도 크게 확충됐다. 시민들의 숙원이었던 의왕 종합병원 역시 올해 4월 기공식을 갖고 본격적인 건립에 들어갔다.

시는 이와 함께 진로진학상담센터와 수학클리닉센터를 운영하며 맞춤형 교육정책을 강화하고 있으며, 황톳길을 포함한 맨발 걷기길 22곳을 조성해 건강도시 기반도 확대하고 있다.

복지 분야에서도 백운호수공원 개장을 비롯해 노인 버스 무료승차 지원, 80세 이상 노인 복지카드 지원, 장애인을 위한 힐링쉼터와 단기거주시설 확충 등 생애주기별 복지정책을 꾸준히 추진하며 시민 체감도를 높이고 있다.

의왕시는 앞으로도 민선 9기를 통해 도시의 자족기능을 강화하고 문화·복지·건강·교육 등 시민 생활과 밀접한 정책을 지속적으로 확대해 나간다는 계획이다.

Uiwang City has once again demonstrated its top-tier regional competitiveness by receiving recognition for its achievements in urban development, the expansion of transportation infrastructure, and balanced development in the fields of education, welfare, and culture.

Uiwang City announced on the 23rd that it won the Grand Prize in the Regional Development category at the ‘2026 Korea’s Best Management Awards’ ceremony held at the Grand Ballroom of The Plaza Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul.

Hosted by the Chosun Ilbo and sponsored by the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Employment and Labor, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the Korea’s Best Management Awards is a prestigious award that selects and honors companies, public institutions, and local governments that have realized customer-centric innovative management and sustainable development.

In this award, Uiwang City received high praise for simultaneously enhancing urban competitiveness and the quality of life for its citizens by pushing forward large-scale urban development projects without setbacks, while simultaneously expanding education, culture, and welfare policies and establishing a railway-centered metropolitan transportation network. Currently, Uiwang City, in collaboration with LH, is pursuing six large-scale urban development projects, including the Gocheon, Chopyeong, Wolam, Cheonggye 2, Uiwang-Gunpo-Ansan 3rd New Town, and Ojeon-Wanggok districts.
