경기도의회 교육행정위원회 김현석 부위원장(국민의힘·과천)은 지난 3일 경기도교육청에서 열린 ‘경기도 고교 평준화 지역 학생 배정 개선 방안’ 회의에서 과천여고 문제의 근본적 해결을 위해 정원과 학생 배정 조정을 포함한 구조적 대책 마련을 촉구했다.

이번 회의는 안민석 경기도교육감 주재로 광명·과천 등 평준화 지역의 학생 배정 문제와 학교 간 교육력 및 선호도 격차를 점검하고 개선 방향을 논의하기 위해 마련됐다.

김 부위원장은 “과천여고 문제는 학생과 학부모의 학교 선택 현실이 정원과 배정에 제대로 반영되지 않아 누적된 구조적 문제”라며 “학교 지원대책만 반복해서는 해결할 수 없다”고 지적했다.

이어 “교육과정 개선과 시설 지원 등 다양한 대책에도 학교 선호도 문제는 여전히 해소되지 않았다”며 “이제는 학생과 학부모의 선택을 정원과 배정에 실질적으로 반영해야 한다”고 강조했다.

또 “정원은 그대로 둔 채 학생을 채워 넣는 방식은 학교를 위한 행정일 뿐 학생 중심의 교육정책이 아니다”라며 “과천지역 고교체제를 전면 재검토하고, 필요하다면 1교 2캠퍼스 등 다양한 개편 방안도 검토해야 한다”고 말했다.

김 부위원장은 안민석 교육감이 제안한 지역 원탁회의와 관련해서도 “기존 지원대책을 반복하는 자리가 아니라 정원·배정 조정과 학교체제 개편 방향을 구체화하는 논의가 이뤄져야 한다”며 “현실을 반영한 결단과 실행이 필요한 시점”이라고 밝혔다.
