남종섭 경기도의회 의장(더불어민주당·용인3)이 대한민국시도의회의장협의회 제20대 전반기 회장에 선출됐다. 경기도의회 의장이 전국 16개 시·도의회를 대표하는 협의회장을 맡은 것은 2018년 이후 8년 만이다.

경기도의회는 지난 5일 세종시에서 열린 대한민국시도의회의장협의회 2026년 정기회에서 남 의장이 협의회장으로 호선됐다고 밝혔다. 이에 따라 전국 최대 광역의회인 경기도의회가 향후 지방의회 권한 강화와 지방의회법 제정을 위한 전국 시·도의회의 협력을 이끌게 됐다.

남 의장은 선출 직후 전국 시·도의회 의장들과 함께 ‘지방의회법 제정, 지방분권 완성’, ‘국민이 주도하는 자치분권’ 등의 문구가 적힌 피켓을 들고 지방의회법의 조속한 제정을 촉구하는 퍼포먼스를 진행했다.
