Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education’s ‘Phone Free School’ exceeds 1,300, with over 10,000 participating students Students reduce smartphone use and practice reading, art, sports, etc. for 100 days.
The number of schools participating in the ‘Phone Free School’ promoted by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education has exceeded 1,300. More than 10,000 students are participating in the ‘100 Days of Phone Free Miracle’, which aims to help students control their smartphone usage habits.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education announced that as of the 15th, the number of schools practicing ‘Phone Free School’ has exceeded 1,300. The main content is to create a school culture that reduces smartphone use centered on the student council and converts that time to activities such as reading, art, and sports (RAS) and relationship building with friends and family.
‘The Miracle of 100 Days of Phone Free’ is a program in which students reflect on their smartphone usage habits, set their own practice goals and rules, and continue these for 100 days.
The feature is that it does not simply limit the time spent using smartphones, but focuses on how to utilize the reduced time. Students select and practice activities that are meaningful to them, such as reading, art, and sports, as well as learning and communicating with friends and family, and record the process.
During the 100-day practice process, situations in which the goal was not met are also subject to recording. Students have the experience of examining and adjusting their smartphone usage habits through the process of reflecting on the reasons why practice was difficult and trying again.
The Office of Education explained that this is meaningful in cultivating self-control in smartphone use as well as self-direction in setting and implementing goals for oneself.
Based on the ‘Phone Free School’ and ‘Phone Free 100 Day Miracle’, the Office of Education plans to support students’ voluntary participation so that it is not limited to a one-time campaign but leads to a continuous culture in school life.
