Anyang City Council of the NUAC Hosts Peace Culture Program at Anyang Dance Festival

"United by Dance, Moving Toward a Future of Peace" — Citizens Engage in *Bukcheong Saja Noreum* (Lion Dance) and Peace-Unification Interviews

The Anyang City Council of the National Unification Advisory Council (NUAC), led by Chairperson Park Kyung-ae, operated a citizen-participatory peace culture program at Pyeongchon Central Park on October 19–20 in conjunction with the 2026 Anyang Dance Festival.

Organized under the theme "United by Dance, Moving Toward a Future of Peace," the event was designed to allow festival-goers to experience the shared cultural heritage of the Korean Peninsula firsthand and reflect on the significance of the Korean community and the value of peace.

A highlight of the event was the *Bukcheong Saja Noreum* (Bukcheong Lion Dance)—a traditional performance originating from the Bukcheong region of South Hamgyong Province—which was staged once daily over the two-day period. Following the dynamic lion dance, interactive performances involving both the troupe and the audience, along with commemorative photo sessions, drew an enthusiastic response from spectators.

The "Peace-Unification Interview with One Million Citizens" campaign, spearheaded by the NUAC Secretariat, was also conducted on-site. Eight sub-committees of the Anyang City Council took turns engaging with citizens; with approximately 4,000 citizens participating in the interviews during the festival, the council laid the groundwork to achieve its internal goal of reaching 10,000 participants.

Peace culture experience booths offered programs tailored to families, including painting *Bukcheong Saja* (lion) masks, making *Bukcheong Saja* mask badges, and trying on the masks to experience the lion dance. North Korean defectors residing in the area also participated in the event, adding further meaning to the themes of communication and harmony. Chairperson Park Kyung-ae presented dining vouchers to North Korean defectors attending the event to offer them encouragement, and provided souvenirs—such as reusable tarpaulin bags and handheld fans—to citizens who took part in interviews and hands-on activities.

"I am grateful to the many citizens who enjoyed the Bukcheong Lion Dance—a shared cultural heritage—and participated in the public interviews, thereby embracing the value of peace," said Park Kyung-ae, Chairperson of the Anyang City Chapter of the National Unification Advisory Council. "We will continue to create various opportunities for harmony where citizens can reflect on and discuss peace and unification in their daily lives."
