Baegun Lake Draws 80,000 Visitors, Bathed in Autumn Colors

A mix of performances, hands-on activities, busking, and a stamp tour attracts families

Over the weekend, as the colors of autumn began to deepen, Uiwang’s Baegun Lake was bustling with visitors.

Approximately 80,000 people visited the 22nd Uiwang Baegun Lake Festival, held over two days on the 19th and 20th at Baegun Lake Park. Visitors enjoyed the festivities in various ways—from audiences watching performances while gazing at the lake to families visiting activity zones hand-in-hand with their children, and citizens strolling along the lakeside to the sound of busking music.

The festival was designed to allow visitors to enjoy the event while walking around the lake rather than staying in one spot, with performances, hands-on activities, and games distributed throughout the natural landscape of Baegun Lake.

Families with children participated in craft workshops, traditional games, caricature drawing, and face painting, while programs such as magic shows and balloon art took place across the lawn plaza. Many visitors were also seen participating in the stamp tour or walking along the lakeside to catch busking performances.

While families and strollers filled the festival grounds during the day, crowds gathered at the lawn plaza in the evening to watch the performances. On the first day, musical actress Kim So-hyun took the stage following a performance by the Uiwang Philharmonic Orchestra. The harmony of music and the scenery of Baegun Lake enhanced the autumn evening atmosphere.

On the second day, artists such as Son Tae-jin, Lee Jae-hoon (Cool), Ben, Chunja, and Free Pass took the stage, keeping the festival's energy high. After the performances concluded, a fireworks display lit up the night sky over Baegun Lake, bringing the two-day festival to a close. Another notable aspect of the festival was the diverse ways in which people spent their time at the venue.

Citizens who had come to watch performances wandered over to the hands-on activity zones, while families strolled along the lakeside as children participated in play programs. Busking performances and a "stamp tour" connected the main stage with the lakeside area, encouraging people to linger throughout the festival grounds even during intervals between performances.

To accommodate the crowd of approximately 80,000 visitors, the city operated five temporary parking lots and shuttle buses serving various local neighborhoods, while also implementing safety management measures at the venue. Officials explained that they had prioritized traffic and safety, given the nature of such a large-scale event.

Following the festival's conclusion, Uiwang Mayor Kim Seong-je stated, "I am grateful to the many citizens and visitors who joined us and showed such enthusiastic support." He added, "We will continue to develop the Uiwang Baegun Lake Festival—an event that harmonizes the lake's beautiful natural scenery with arts and culture—into Uiwang’s signature autumn festival, ensuring it brings joy and vitality to our citizens."
