Uiwang City Launches Full-Scale ‘Uiwang Archiving’ Project Based on Local Reading Network Collaboration among the city, local authors, bookstores, and reading clubs aims to boost creative activity and build a local archive.
Uiwang City is launching a full-scale "Uiwang Archiving" project to document the city's literature and reading culture resources, partnering with key local stakeholders such as authors, bookstores, and reading clubs.
On the 22nd, the city signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the Central Library with the Uiwang Writers' Association, the Uiwang Bookstore Association, and the Uiwang Reading Club Association to "create a reading ecosystem for revitalizing Uiwang Archiving."
This agreement aims to connect local reading and cultural stakeholders to revitalize creative literature and to systematically document and accumulate resources related to the region's literature and reading culture.
Under the agreement, the four participating organizations will jointly develop and operate participatory reading and cultural programs and support the creative activities of local authors. They plan to create archiving content utilizing local cultural resources and establish a foundation that allows citizens to directly create and accumulate local records.
Leveraging this agreement, the city intends to integrate various local reading culture projects that were previously conducted independently. Earlier, in April, the city signed an agreement with the Gunpo-Uiwang Office of Education to promote student reading education in collaboration with local authors, and in July, it held a meeting with libraries, local authors, and bookstores to discuss ways to revitalize the local reading ecosystem.
From August to September, the "Meet Uiwang Authors" program was held at the Central Library and four local bookstores, and since August, a "Bookstore Keeper's Book Curation" program—a collaboration between libraries and local bookstores—has been in operation. Kim Eun-young, Director of the Uiwang City Lifelong Education Center, stated, “This will serve as an opportunity to establish a virtuous cycle of sustainable reading culture through collaboration among libraries, local authors, local bookstores, and reading clubs.” She added, “We will strive to position Uiwang City as a city of creative literature by working together with various local stakeholders in reading and culture.”
