5.3% Increase from This Year; 1,930 Won Higher Than Minimum Wage

Anyang City has set next year’s living wage at 12,630 won per hour.

On the 28th, the city announced that it had decided to raise the living wage by 630 won (5.3%)—from this year’s 12,000 won—following the second regular meeting of the Anyang City Labor-Management-Civil-Government Council held at City Hall.

Next year’s living wage is 1,930 won (18%) higher than the minimum wage of 10,700 won. Based on a 40-hour workweek (209 hours per month), the monthly wage amounts to 2,639,670 won, an increase of 131,670 won compared to this year.

The new rate applies to 1,055 workers, including direct hires by the city government, city-funded or city-affiliated institutions, and agencies under private contracts, effective January 1 of next year.

In addition to setting the living wage, the council reviewed the progress of this year’s local labor-management-civil-government cooperative projects and deliberated on plans for the coming year. Next year’s initiatives will focus on creating labor-respecting workplaces, ensuring a "just transition" in the AI era, and preventing industrial accidents.

Anyang Mayor Choi Dae-ho stated, "We will seek solutions to local employment and labor issues through dialogue and cooperation, and work to spread a culture of mutual growth between labor and management."
