Gwacheon City Recruits Participants for ‘Doggy Citizen School’

Event to be held on October 24 at Gwanmun Sports Park; features hands-on activities, health checkups, and behavioral consultations.

Gwacheon City announced that it will begin recruiting participants on October 1 for the ‘Doggy Citizen School,’ scheduled to take place on October 24 at the dog park within Gwanmun Sports Park.

This event aims to foster a better understanding of canine health and behavior while promoting responsible pet ownership culture. Key programs include canine CPR demonstrations, behavioral consultations, basic health checkups and hygienic grooming, professional profile photos, pet tarot readings, caricatures, and workshops for making ID tags, soap, and homemade treats.

An educational program tailored to individual dog temperaments, called ‘Doggy Intensive Class,’ will also be offered. Classes are organized into groups of six teams per cohort; weekday sessions run on October 16 and 23, while weekend sessions take place on October 17 and 24. The training spans two weeks, with three sessions held daily—each lasting 90 minutes—accommodating a total of 36 participants.

Basic health checkups will be conducted by local veterinarians who assess the dogs' general health and provide consultations. Professional groomers will also check hygiene conditions and provide basic grooming services, helping owners maintain their pets' health and cleanliness.

Registration for major hands-on activities and basic health checkups is available both in advance and on-site. However, participation in the intensive class, behavioral consultations, profile photography, and workshops for ID tags and homemade treats is restricted to those who register in advance. If pre-registered participants fail to attend, the opportunity will be offered to on-site visitors. Registration opens on October 1 via the QR code in the event notice or the official website (2026gcpf.com). Participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis—subject to capacity limits for each program—with registration closing on October 14 for intensive classes and October 21 for other programs.

In addition, various side events will be held, including a photo zone for pets, a "dog waste exchange station" where participants can trade collected waste, and a flea market selling pet-related products.

Gwacheon Mayor Shin Gye-yong stated, "I hope this event serves as an opportunity for people to better understand their pets' behavior and health and to practice responsible pet ownership," adding, "We will continue to organize diverse programs to foster a mature pet-owning culture."

Meanwhile, Gwacheon City is providing support for rabies vaccinations until October 17. Registered pets in the city can receive the vaccination for 5,000 won, with the city covering the full cost of the vaccine and a portion of the administration fee. Pet owners who have not yet vaccinated their pets this year can visit local veterinary clinics to have the procedure done.
