Gyeonggi Provincial Library Hosts ‘Climate Chapter’ to Mark 1st Anniversary Oct. 18–25… Participatory programs including conferences, book talks, hands-on activities, and exhibitions
To celebrate its first anniversary, Gyeonggi Provincial Library is organizing a cultural event designed to expand the scope of books and reading into the realm of climate action.
The library announced that it will host the "2026 Gyeonggi Provincial Library Climate Chapter: A List of Borrowed Things" for eight days, from October 18 to 25. Co-organized with the Anchor Project Group at Kyung Hee University, the event focuses on bringing together experts, authors, and citizens to read about and reflect on climate issues, ultimately translating these insights into practical actions in daily life.
The event’s theme is "A List of Borrowed Things." It views the world we inhabit as something we are borrowing, prompting questions about how we can use it sustainably and pass it on to future generations.
A conference titled "The World We Borrow" will be held on October 23, featuring ecologist Professor Choi Jae-chun and installation artist Choi Jeong-hwa. They will examine climate and environmental issues from the perspectives of both science and art, and a video showcasing climate-related messages submitted by local residents will be screened. This day also marks the official celebration of the library’s first anniversary and the formal launch of the "Climate Chapter" initiative.
From October 20 to 25, a series of "relay book talks" will take place, featuring 14 authors and activists. Centered on the theme "What I Have Borrowed Is...", these sessions will explore climate issues across diverse fields—ranging from waste and consumption to urban environments and ecology, as well as picture books and poetry.
Participatory programs for residents are also being prepared. During the event, a 15m x 15m canopy—created by stitching together 1,000 hand-knitted pieces made by citizens—will be installed at Dodamtteul Plaza to serve as an outdoor reading space.
On the 24th and 25th, the Gyeonggi Arts Center’s "ON STAGE: Gyeonggi" and a performance by the Arte Gyeonggi Orchestra will take place, while the "Reading Party Under the Shade"—where visitors can enjoy both music and reading—will be held at Dodamtteul Plaza. Participation in and viewing of all programs are free of charge.
