At the first meeting of the 354th special session on the 6th, Jeong Yun-kyung, chairman of the Educational Opportunities Committee of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly, received a report on the assault on an elderly person in his 60s in Yeoju and urged prevention of recurrence.

In the case of assault on the elderly in Yeoju on August 18, a teenage male student at Gyeonggi Tourism High School demanded to purchase a cigarette from a female in her 60s and hit her head several times with a chrysanthemum flower taken from a nearby girl. The investigation is currently underway at the Yeoju Police Station.

This report was prepared for the purpose of understanding the circumstances of the incident and preventing recurrence, attended by the head of the Yeoju Office of Education and the head of Gyeonggi Tourism High School.

Rep. Kim Kyung-geun (The Min-ju, Nam Yang-ju 6) pointed out the school's response to the media and said, "We all have great and heavy social and educational responsibilities to put all the responsibilities on one student, and I am disappointed with the school's evasion of responsibility. I couldn't hide it," he pointed out.

The principal of Gyeonggi Tourism High School said, "I sincerely apologize to the victim, and I sincerely apologize to all those who were outraged by the deviant behavior of our students and felt distrust in school education."

Rep. Kim Eun-ju (The Min-ju, proportional) ordered, “Due to this incident, various programs for school maladjusted students are needed, and the school and the education office will work together to come up with alternatives so that the maladjusted students can adapt to society.”

The head of Yeoju Education said, “We are preparing a program for students who do not fit into school, and the school is preparing a counseling program for psychological support of students.”

Chairman Jeong Yun-kyung said, “It is unfortunate that this incident happened during a psychologically difficult time in the context of Corona 19, and it happened right after the student who was abused from Gangwon-do transferred to Gyeonggi Tourism High School. In order to prevent this from happening, we will use systems such as the Student Self-Governing Council and the Youth Council to help students develop good character on their own.”

Chairman Jung further urged students to come up with an education policy that enables schools, education offices, and local communities to respond together so that students can grow into upright democratic citizens.
