21일 군포시는 보행자의 간접흡연 피해를 예방하고 쾌적한 도심 환경을 조성하기 위해 지역 대표 상업지구인 산본로데오거리를 금연거리로 지정하고 전방위적인 관리에 나선다고 밝혔다.

앞서 '금연환경조성 및 간접흡연 피해방지 조례'를 제정해 법적인 근거를 마련했다. 지정한 금연구역은 산본역 앞에서 이마트 앞 광장까지, 군포시청 앞 횡단보도에서 6단지 앞 광장까지 십자 형태 구역이다. 이곳에서 흡연 시에는 5만원의 과태료를 부과한다.

금연거리 실효성을 높이기 위해 군포 보건소는 산본보건지소 12명의 금연단속원과 68명의 금연지킴이들의 현장 중심 금연계도 활동을 상시 운영하고, 시민들의 자발적인 참여를 유도한다.
