과천시가 지난 5월 24일 관문체육공원에서 ‘관문 제2실내체육관’ 건립 기공식을 개최했다. 총 사업비 311억원을 투입해 2026년 상반기 개관을 목표로 하는 제2실내체육관 건립 기공식에는 신계용 과천시장을 비롯해 과천시체육회, 유관기관 및 사회단체 관계자 등 150여 명이 참석했다.
제2실내체육관은 관문체육공원 농구장, 배구장 위치에 연면적 5,430㎡, 지하1층~지상3층 규모로 지어진다.
체육관 1층에는 25미터 6개 레인, 유아풀 등을 갖춘 수영장이 들어서고, 2층에는 헬스장, 체력인증센터, 강의실, 3층에는 다목적체육관, 암벽등반장이 들어선다.
현재 관문체육공원(면적 173,635㎡)에는 육상 트랙이 있는 다목적운동장, 실내체육관, 테니스장, 풋살장, 농구장, 배구장, 인라인스케이트장 등이 조성되어 있다.
과천시는 제2실내체육관 건립을 통해 관문체육공원의 체육시설을 확충함으로써, 관문체육공원이 지역 내 생활체육 거점으로서의 역할을 할 수 있도록 할 계획이다.
