저의 고민은 이러합니다. 그동안 안양 군포 의왕 과천 지역의 신문으로서 중앙정치에 대해서는 보도를 가급적 자제해왔습니다만 대통령이나 중앙정부, 국회의 잘못된 정치 행태에 대해서도 좀 더 적극적이고 비판적인 뉴스를 담아내야 하지 않는가? 하나 더. 우울한 시대 독자들에게 희망의 메시지를 어떻게 전할 것인가?
본지는 그동안 지역의 경제·사회·문화·교육 발전을 추구하는 데 앞장서왔고, 안양·군포·의왕·과천 지역 거주민의 입장을 대변하고, 실시간으로 경기브레이크뉴스를 통해 사회적 약자의 보호와 지원을 위해 노력함으로써 지역의 발전과 통합에 기여해왔습니다.

지난해 본지는 중앙정부의 적자재정이 기초자치단체의 예산에 반영돼 주민자치회 예산이 감액되는 현상을 목도했습니다. 그동안 지나치게 지역에 매몰돼 온 것이 아닌가 반성하며 중앙정치, 정부와 국회에 대한 보도에도 힘쓰겠습니다. 중앙정치가 바로서지 않고선 현실적으로 지방자치, 주민자치도 쉽지 않습니다. 따라서 올해는 중앙과 지역의 군형 보도를 위해 더욱 힘쓰겠습니다.
독자들을 행복하게 하는 신문
신문이 가지는 비판기능을 포기하지는 않겠습니다만 부정적인 기사, 무미건조한 보도기사만 넘쳐나는 신문이 아니라 지역의 미담, 인물 인터뷰, 긍정적인 기사 등으로 독자를 즐겁고 행복하게 하는 신문이 되겠습니다.

본지는 종이신문으로 주간현대신문을 격주간으로 발행함과 동시에 실시간 업데이트가 가능한 인터넷신문으로 경기브레이크뉴스를 운영하고 있습니다. 경기브레이크뉴스는 네이버, 다음 등 주요포탈에 서비스되고 있습니다.
올해는 독자들에게 신속하게 중앙과 지역의 뉴스를 전하기 위해 경기브레이크뉴스 활성화를 위해 더욱 노력하겠습니다.
