의왕시가 행정안전부 ‘2024년 지역안전지수 평가’에서 ‘우수지역’으로 선정되며, 전국에서 가장 안전한 도시임을 입증했다.
의왕시는 이번 평가에서 지역안전지수의 6대 분야 중 생활안전, 자살, 감염병 분야에서 최고 등급인 1등급을 달성하고, 교통사고, 화재, 범죄 분야에서도 2등급을 기록하며 안전지수 우수지역으로 선정됐다. 이는 전국에서 단 3개 지자체만이 선정된 ‘안전지수 우수지역’에 이름을 올린 성과로, 의왕시는 가장 안전한 도시로서의 명성을 다시 한 번 확인했다.
행정안전부는 2015년부터 전국 모든 자치단체를 대상으로 재난 및 안전관리 기본법에 따라 지역별·분야별 안전수준을 진단해 매년 지역안전지수를 공표, 지자체의 안전관리 역량을 객관적으로 평가하며, 안전의식 제고와 취약 부분의 자율적 개선을 유도해 안전사고로 인한 인명피해를 줄이는 데 기여하고 있다.
의왕시는 2년 연속 안전지수 우수지역으로 선정된 경기도 내 유일한 지자체로, 전국적으로도 단 2개 지자체만이 이 기록을 달성했다.
의왕시는 그동안 시민이 안전한 도시환경을 만들기 위해 △골목길 등 취약지역 CCTV 및 스마트 보안등 확충 △재난예경보시설 확충 및 소하천스마트 계측시스템 설치 △재해위험지역 정비추진 △하천 진입 차단시설 설치 등 다양한 정책을 추진해 왔다.
