안양시민들이 시민결의대회를 개최해 안양시 도심을 지나는 경부선 철도 지하화 사업 추진을촉구했다.

‘경부선 지하화 안양 추진위원회(위원장 김의중, 이하 추진위원회)’는 지난 3월 13일 오후 5시 안양역 앞 광장에서 경부선 철도 지하화 촉구 시민결의대회를 열고 성명서를 발표했다.

추진위원회와 시민 400여명은 이날 광장에 모여 안양시의 숙원사업인 안양시 경부선 철도 지하화 사업이 반드시 추진돼야 한다고 목소리를 높였다.

김의중 추진위원장은 이날 경부선 철도 지하화 촉구 발언에서 “2012년 경부선 지하와 통합 추진위원회 안양 지역 위원장으로서 103만 시민의 뜻을 모아 서명 운동을 전개하고 서울 용산역 광장에서 소명지를 전달하는 등 지하와 촉구에 활동을 펼쳐 왔다”며, “철도 지하화 특별법 및 가이드라인 제정에 가장 큰 기여를 하였음에도 불구하고 지난 2월 19일 발표된 철도 지하화 선도 사업에 우리 시가 선정되지 못한 것은 매우 아쉽다. 하지만 이제 좌절하지 않고 더욱 강한 의지로 끝까지 추진해 나가겠다”고 말했다. 김 추진위원장은 “경부선 지하화는 단순히 안양시민만의 문제가 아니다”라며, “수도권의 균형 발전을 위한 필수 과제이며 안양의 미래를 결정짓는 중요한 사안이다. 우리 시민들은 결코 포기하지 않을 것이다. 국토교통부가 반드시 철도 지하화 종합 계획에 경부선 안양시 7.5km 구간을 포함시켜 줄 것을 강력히 요청한다”고 말했다.

이날 시민대회에는 최대호 안양시장과 경기도의원, 안양시의원 등도 참석해 올해 하반기 예정된 국토교통부의 철도 지하화 종합계획의 안양시 경부선 철도 반영을 촉구했다.

최대호 안양시장은 “상부공간 등 통합개발로 상업, 문화, 녹지가 어우러진 복합공간으로 조성하고 지역경제 활성화와 교통 인프라를 개선하겠다”며, “2010년 공약사업으로 시작해 추진한 안양시의 오랜 노력과 56만 안양시민의 염원을 담아 안양시의 경부선 철도 구간의 철도 지하화 종합계획 반영을 강력히 요청한다”고 말했다.

안양시는 지난해 11월부터 경부선 지하화 및 상부개발 전략 수립 용역을 추진 중이며, 오는 5월 국토부에 철도 지하화 종합계획 반영을 위한 사업 제안서 제출에 총력을 다하고 있다.
