국제라이온스협회354-B지구 평촌라이온스클럽(회장 류현수)이 호계1동 주민자치위원회와 새마을부녀회와 함께 지난 3월 24일 호계1동에 거주하는 취약계층 주거환경 개선을 위한 봉사활동을 실시했다.

이번 집수리 대상 가구는 고령의 노모와 정신질환의 아들이 거주하는 곳으로, 집 안 내부는 곰팡이와 노후 가전·가구, 적치된 물건 등으로 두 모자가 생활하기에 열악했고, 가족 모두 질병을 앓고 있는 데다 경제적 어려움까지 겪고 있어 개선이 쉽지 않은 상황이었다.

평촌라이온스클럽 회원들은 호계1동 주민자치위원, 새마을부녀회원들과 이른 아침부터 함께 힘을 모아 곰팡이로 찌든 도배·장판을 교체하고, 집안 내부 환기를 위해 환풍기를 새로 설치했다. 또한, 거동이 불편해 오랫동안 손이 닿지 못했던 냉장고, 싱크대 등도 함께 청소·정리하고, 가스레인지·침대·장롱·수납 선반 등 대상 가구가 필요한 물품도 지원하며 쾌적한 보금자리를 선물했다.

평촌라이온스클럽의 봉사활동으로 주거환경이 개선된 어르신은 “집을 고칠 형편이 되지 않고, 거동도 불편해 청소도 제대로 못하고 있었는데, 이렇게 좋은 일을 하시는 분들이 계셔서 도움을 주시니 한없이 감사하다”고 말했다.

류현수 평촌라이온스클럽 회장은 “지저분한 환경에서 불편함을 느끼며 살던 취약계층에게 깨끗하고 따뜻한 공간을 제공해 드려 뿌듯함을 느끼며, 앞으로도 복지 사각지대에 계신 분들을 찾아 필요한 도움을 주어 지역사회에 보탬이 되는 봉사단체로 거듭나겠다”고 말했다.

평촌라이온스클럽은 현재 국제라이온스협회354-B지구를 이끌고 있는 조성현 지구본부총재와 최대호 안양시장을 배출한 명문 단위 라이온스클럽이다.

평촌라이온스클럽은 회원 60여명으로 구성, 불우이웃과 소외계층을 위해 생필품 지원, 기부금 전달, 김장나눔 행사 개최, 장애인 리프트 차량 제공 등 다양한 봉사활동을 통해 연간 5,000여만 원을 기부하고 있다.

The household targeted for this home repair was an elderly mother and her mentally ill son. Pyeongchon Lions Club members joined forces with Hogye 1-dong Residents’ Autonomous Committee and Saemaul Women’s Association members early in the morning to replace moldy wallpaper and flooring and install new ventilation fans to improve ventilation inside the house. In addition, they cleaned and organized refrigerators and sinks that had been out of reach for a long time due to inconvenient movement, and provided necessary items for target furniture such as gas stoves, beds, chests of drawers, and storage shelves, giving them a comfortable home.

An elderly person whose living environment improved thanks to the volunteer work of Pyeongchon Lions Club said, “I couldn’t afford to fix my house, and I couldn’t clean it properly because I had inconvenient movement, so I’m so grateful that there are people who do such good work to help me.”
