“한강작가의 노벨문학상 수상으로 조성될 뻔한 독서붐 조성을 위해 노력하겠다.”
본지 이여춘 발행인이 지난 4월 4일 저녁 마벨리에 평촌점에서 개최된 주간현대신문/경기브레이크뉴스 창간 17주년 행사에서 “한강 작가의 노벨상 수상으로 모처럼 독서열풍이 일어났으나 이러한 독서 열기를 일거에 잠재운 것이 12월 3일 윤석열 대통령의 비상계엄 선포였다”며, “주간현대신문/경기브레이크뉴스가 한강 작가의 노벨문학상 수상으로 조성될 뻔한 독서붐을 되살리기 위한 노력에서부터 ‘우리 사회의 희망’을 만들어가겠다”고 말했다.
이날 행사에는 최대호 안양시장, 하은호 군포시장, 김성제 의왕시장을 비롯해 안양만안 강득구 국회의원, 이학영 국회부의장(더불어민주당, 군포시), 김철현 경기도의원 등 지역의 정치인과 남상덕 본지 자문위원장을 비롯한 20여명의 자문위원, 지역의 기관장, 정은경 안양1동장을 비롯한 봉필규 안양1동 주민자치회장 등 100여명이 참석해 본지 창간 17주년을 축하했다.
이날 행사는 박진호 K멘토&비전센터 대표의 사회로 1부 오프닝, 2부 기념식, 3부 만찬 순으로 진행됬다.
특히 1부 오프닝에서는 공연 위주 행사에서 벗어나 ‘사단법인 찾아가는박물관’의 전시회가 개최돼 참석자들에게 좋은 볼거리를 제공했다. 이원균 찾아가는박물관 이사장이 자신의 소장품 100여점을 전시하고 직접 해설까지 맡아 유물과 유물에 담겨 있는 의미를 전달해 전시장을 찾은 관람객들에게 감동을 선사했다.
찾아가는 박물관의 전시회에 이어서 핫삐시니어밴드의 공연으로 행사장의 분위기는 한껏 고조됐다.

2부 기념식은 지역의 기관장과 정치인의 축사, 본지 이여춘 발행인과 남상덕 자문위원장의 기념사 등에 이어 감사패 및 공로패 수여, 케이크커팅 및 기념사진 촬영 순으로 진행됐다.
최대호 안양시장, 하은호 군포시장, 김성제 의왕시장, 이학영 국회의원(더불어민주당, 군포), 강득구 국회의원(더불어민주당, 안양만안), 김철현 경기도의원 등 지역의 기관장과 정치인이 축사를 하고, 본지 이여춘 발행인과 남상덕 자문위원장이 기념사를 했다. 신계용 과천시장은 영상축사를 보내왔다. 이어 본지 김성환 자문위원이 감사패를, 박연진 시민기자가 공로패를 수상햇다. 기념식은 케이크커팅에 이은 기념사진 촬영으로 마무리됐다.
본지 남상덕 자문위원장은 기념사에서 “이여춘 발행인이 좋아서 자문위원장 역할을 한 10년 이상 하고 있다”며, “주간현대신문/경기브레이크뉴스가 17년이 아니라 27년 37년을 이 지역 사회를 위해서 봉사하는 그런 신문사로 거듭나도록 여기 오신 여러분들이 물심양면으로 많이 보아주시고 도와주시면 이 지역사회가 대한민국에서 가장 좋은 지역으로 발전될 것을 의심치 않는다”고 말했다.

At the Weekly Hyundai Newspaper/Gyeonggi Break News 17th Anniversary Event held at the Pyeongchon branch of Marvelie on the evening of April 4, publisher Lee Yeo-chun of this paper said, “Writer Han Kang’s Nobel Prize gave rise to a reading craze, but what put an end to this reading craze was President Yoon Seok-yeol’s declaration of martial law on December 3.” He added, “Weekly Hyundai Newspaper/Gyeonggi Break News will work to create ‘hope for our society’ by starting with efforts to revive the reading boom that almost occurred with Han Kang’s Nobel Prize in Literature.”
On this day, Mayor Choi Ma-ho of Anyang City, Mayor Ha Eun-ho of Gunpo City, Mayor Kim Seong-je of Uiwang City, National Assemblyman Kang Deuk-gu of Anyang Manan, National Assemblyman Lee Hak-young of Gunpo City, Gyeonggi Provincial Assemblyman Kim Cheol-hyeon, local politicians, advisory committee chairman Nam Sang-deok of this paper, 20 advisory committee members, heads of local organizations, Anyang 1-dong Mayor Jeong Eun-gyeong, Anyang 1-dong Residents’ Autonomy Association Chairman Bong Pil-gyu, and about 100 people attended the event to celebrate the 17th anniversary of the founding of this paper.
The event was hosted by Park Jin-ho, CEO of K-Mentor & Vision Center, and proceeded in the following order: Part 1: Opening, Part 2: Commemoration Ceremony, and Part 3: Dinner.
In particular, in Part 1: Opening, an exhibition by the ‘Visiting Museum,’ a non-profit organization, was held, providing a great attraction for the attendees, breaking away from the performance-oriented event. Director Lee Won-gyun of the Visiting Museum exhibited about 100 of his own collections and personally provided explanations, conveying the relics and the meaning contained in them, moving the visitors who visited the exhibition hall. Following the exhibition at the visiting museum, the atmosphere of the event was heightened by the performance of the Hotpis Senior Band.
The second part of the commemorative ceremony included congratulatory speeches by local heads of institutions and politicians, commemorative speeches by publisher Lee Yeo-chun and advisory committee chairman Nam Sang-deok, followed by the presentation of plaques of appreciation and merit, cake cutting, and commemorative photos.
Local heads of institutions and politicians, including Anyang Mayor Choi Dae-ho, Gunpo Mayor Ha Eun-ho, Uiwang Mayor Kim Seong-je, National Assembly member Lee Hak-young (Democratic Party of Korea, Gunpo), National Assembly member Kang Deuk-gu (Democratic Party of Korea, Anyang Manan), and Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly member Kim Cheol-hyeon, gave congratulatory speeches, and publisher Lee Yeo-chun and advisory committee chairman Nam Sang-deok gave commemorative speeches. Gwacheon Mayor Shin Gye-yong sent a video congratulatory speech. Advisory committee member Kim Seong-hwan of this newspaper then received a plaque of appreciation, and citizen reporter Park Yeon-jin received a plaque of merit. The commemorative ceremony ended with a cake cutting and commemorative photos.
In his commemorative speech, Nam Sang-deok, the advisory committee chairman of this newspaper, said, “I have served as the advisory committee chairman for over 10 years because I like publisher Lee Yeo-chun,” and, “If everyone here continues to support and assist in both material and spiritual ways so that the Weekly Hyundai Newspaper/Gyeonggi Break News can be reborn as a newspaper that serves this local community for not 17 years but 27 years, 37 years, I have no doubt that this local community will develop into the best in South Korea.”
