‘한국산 민주주의(Democracy. Made in Korea)?’

외신들이 윤석열 대통령 파면이 헌법재판소에서 선고되기까지 과정을 보고 만들어낸 용어다. 이 말 속에는 세계 민주주의를 한국이 선도한다고 인정하는 것이 느껴진다. 프랑스가 민주주의를 태동시켰다면, 한국은 미래의 민주주의의 모범을 만들어 갈 거라는 기대가 들어있다. 실제로 현지시간 4월 5일 미국 50개 주에서 일어난 1,400건의 시위는 폭력 없는 미국 최초의 시위였다. 유럽에서 같은 목적으로 열린 시위에서도 폭력은 없었다. 한국처럼 응원봉을 들고 음악에 맞춰 춤추기도 하였다고 한다. 가히 빛의 속도로 한국의 축제 같은 비폭력시위가 수출된 것이다.

민주주의의 성지가 될 대한민국

12.3 계엄으로 야기된 시위는 윤석열 탄핵 찬성과 반대로 나뉘었다. 젊은 세대 위주의 탄핵 찬성과 나이든 분들 위주의 탄핵 반대는 옳고 그름을 떠나 한국 사회의 의식(意識)의 변화를 보여준다. 윤석열은 국회에 군인을 난입시켜 비상계엄을 획책했다. 이에 저항한 눈 덮인 키세스 시위대 뒷모습은 거대한 침묵의 함성을 뿜어냈다. 세계는 전자에서 폭력의 힘(force)을, 후자에서 침묵의 힘(power)을 인식하였다(D. 서울서부지방법원 점거 폭동은 기존의 시위법을 떠올린다. 낡은 방법이라는 뜻이다. 야만이기도 하다. 젊은이들이 주도해 벌인 축제 같은 시위는 긍정의 힘을 뿜어낸다. 이 힘이 탄핵 선고 때 걱정되던 폭력을 원천 봉쇄하는 기반이었다. 탄핵 반대 시위대에는 동원된 종교집단의 사람들이 많았다. 그만큼 주체적이지 못하고 집단주의에 휩쓸려 있다. 탄핵반대 시위자 중 한 명이 경찰차 유리창을 몽둥이로 부술 때 주변인들이 이에 동조하지 않고 저지한 것은 경쾌하고 밝은 새로운 시위 문화의 힘에 전염되었기 때문이다. 이제 폭력은 거부당한다는 것을 알게 된 것이다. 한국 사회가 ‘빛의 혁명’으로 급격하게 바뀌고 있다. 한국이 대통령 선거까지 연이어 잘 치러내면, 한국은 새 역사로 진입하게 될 것이다. 눈 부릅뜨고 한국을 바라보고 있는 세계도 간접 학습으로 함께 새 역사로 접어들 것이다.

새로운 역사를 열어갈 대한민국
