경기도가 안양·의왕 등 14개 시·군 공공도서관과 함께 어린이의 문해력 증진과 독서 습관 형성을 위해 경기도 평생독서 프로젝트 ‘천권으로(路)’ 가운데 하나인 ‘어린이 천 권 읽기: 1,000책 탐험대’ 사업을 추진한다.

안양시는 석수도서관, 만안도서관, 삼덕도서관에서 ‘어린이 천 권 읽기: 1,000책 탐험대’ 사업을 진행하고 있으며 서가 구성은 9월까지 완료할 계획이다. 의왕시는 포일어울림도서관과 글로벌도서관에서 ‘어린이 천 권 읽기: 1,000책 탐험대’ 사업을 진행하고 있다. 포일 어울림 도서관의 경우는 그림책 천 권 읽기를 꾸러미 방식으로 미취학 아동 3세에서 7세 아이들 대상으로 추진하고 있으며, 글로벌도서관에서는 5세에서 12세 아이들을 대상으로 천 권 완주를 독려하기 위해서 시장 시상과 독서 여권 증정을 추진하고 있다. 현재는 조서 추천을 받고 잇으며, 서가는 6월 중 구성할 예정이다.

또한 용인, 화성, 부천, 평택, 김포, 구리, 양주, 파주에서도 어린이가 천 권의 책을 읽을 수 있도록 책꾸러미를 구성해 단계별 독서를 돕는다. 안성, 여주, 이천, 양평에서는 지난해에 이어 올해도 천 권 읽기 사업을 자체적으로 지속 추진하고 있다. 시군별 세부 운영 내용은 각 공공도서관 누리집에서 확인할 수 있다.
