‘제22회 의왕단오축제’가 5월 31일(음력 5월 5일) 단오날을 맞아 왕송호수공원 일원에서 약 1만여명의 시민과 관광객이 참여한 가운데 성대하게 개최됐다.

의왕시 주최, 의왕문화원 주관으로 ‘전통을 잇고, 미래를 열다’라는 주제로 열린 이번 축제는 다양한 세대가 어우러져 전통을 체험하고 즐기는 살아 있는 축제의 장이 됐다.

대북 공연으로 문을 연 이날 축제는 의왕두레농악 공연, 국안밴드 AUX, 여성국극‘춘향전’, 한국무용, 경기민요 등 수준 높은 전통공연들이 이어져 무대를 찾은 시민들의 큰 호응을 얻었다. 이날 공연에서는 의왕시 태권도 시범단과 청소년 국악예술단이 참여해 세대 간의 전통 계승을 실감케 했다.

또한 단오수리취떡 만들기, 봉숭아 물들이기, 창포 체험, 청계사 경판만들기, 미니소고 만들기 등 단오날의 전통을 체험할 수 있는 프로그램들이 가족 단위 방문객들에게 큰 인기를 끌었다. 특히, ‘쑥향 품은 모시모빌 만들기’와 ‘장명루 만들기’는 어린이들에게 창의적인 재미와 함께 전통문화의 의미를 전달했다.

이밖에도 ‘의왕 왕곡동 사진전’, ‘짚풀공예 전시, ‘맷방석 만들기’등 지역과 전통을 잇는 콘텐츠가 다양하게 마련되어 축제의 깊이를 더했다.

축제의 대미를 장식한 대동놀이 ‘강강술래’는 한국무용 시범단의 우아하고 절도 있는 시범으로 시작돼 점차 원을 넓혀가며 시민들의 참여로 이어졌고, 어린아이부터 어르신까지 함께 손을 맞잡고 원을 그리며 전통문화를 나누는 감동적인 장면을 연출했다.
