의왕시가 최근 국토교통부에 ‘의왕역 철도입체화 개발’ 제안서를 제출, ‘철도 지하화 통합개발 종합계획’에 반영해 줄 것을 제안했다.
의왕시가 제안한 사업은 의왕역 일원 27만2,582㎡ 부지에 철도시설 입체화(데크 설치)를 추진하고, 인근 의왕ICD 2터미널 기지(26만 9,096㎡)를 산업단지로 조성하는 등 기존 철도 인프라를 중심으로 단절된 도심 공간을 통합하고 재구조화하는 것을 목표로 한다.
‘철도지하화 통합 개발’은 철도부지를 출자받은 사업시행자(정부출자기업)가 채권발행을 통해 철도지하화 사업을 시행하고, 지하화하면서 생기는 철도부지 및 주변을 개발해 발생하는 수입으로 지하화 사업비를 상환하는 사업이다.
