이재명 정부 장관 인선 중 가장 부적절하고 의아한 인선이 이진숙 교육부 장관 내정이다.

우리사회의 여려가지 모순과 문제점을 이야기하다보면 결국 교육에 문제가 있다는 결론에 다다를 만큼 교육은 사회문제의 근원으로 작용하는 중요한 요소이다.

그런 만큼 한국사회의 심각한 본질적 구조적 문제를 고민하고 진정 사회대개혁에 뜻이 있었다면 교육부 장관에 이진숙과 같은 다소 생뚱맞기까지 한 인사를 선임하지는 않았을 것이다.

교육수장으로서 시대인식도 잘못되어 있고 교육의 근본문제 파악도 잘못되어 있으며 개인적 도덕성도 낙제점이며 자녀를 호화유학을 시키는 등 표리부동 위선자의 삶은 더욱 잘못되어 있다.

누가 이런 자를 교육부 장관으로 추천했는지, 나라의 백년대계를 책임질 교육책임자를 논공행상의 수단으로 삼았다면 크게 잘못된 것이다.

집권 초기에 크게 반성하고 국민에게 사과해야 한다.

잘못을 뉘우친 것이 진심이라면 교육부 장관은 적임자를 골라야 한다.

시대정신에 투철하고 사회의 근본적 변혁차원에서 교육대개혁을 이끌 최적임자는 김누리 교수라는 데에 민주시민은 누구나 공감하고 동의할 것이다.

나는 김누리 교수를 교육부 장관으로 내정할 수도 있겠다는 일말의 기대를 갖고 있었는데 느닷없는 인물인 이진숙 교수를 내정했다는 소식을 듣고는 상당히 실망한 바 있다.

‘서울대 10개 만들기’는 시민사회에서 서울대 폐단 없애기 방안의 하나로 지난 수년간 제시해온 것인데 마치 이진숙 교수가 주창하여 기여한 듯이 언론에 홍보하면서 장관임명을 정당화하는 명분으로 삼는 것도 심히 마뜩치 않다. 겨우 그것이 이 문제투성이의 한국사회와 한국교육을 바로잡을 개혁책임자 임명의 명분이 될 수 있는가?

참으로 한심하고 용렬하며 조잡하다.

‘이재명 정부도 그저 그냥 좋은 게 좋고 자리 나눠 먹기나 하는구나’라고 탄식할 수밖에 없다.

지금 한국 교육의 문제가 단순히 교육제도의 문제가 아니라 사회구조, 정치구조, 국가시스템, 사회문화 등 복합적 총체 문제로 얽혀 있기 때문에 단순한 교육전문가로 대처할 수 있는 상황이 아니다.

시대에 대한 정확한 통찰력과 올바른 역사의식, 거시적 총체적 시각과 근원적 문제의식이 없이는 해결의 열쇠를 찾을 수 없다.

그런 차원에서 김누리 교수에게 역사적 대임을 맡겨야 한다는 것이다.

첫 단추를 잘 꿰어야 한다는 것은 누구나 아는 지혜이다

다행히 정권 출범 초기이니 잘못은 얼마든지 바로잡을 수 있다.

이재명 정부가 진정 "진짜 대한민국" "국민이 주인인 나라"를 만들겠다는 진심과 충심이 있다면 교육의 근본개혁을 실현할 김누리 교수를 교육부 장관으로 임명하여야 할 것이다.
