과천시가 한국정책경영연구원이 주관한 ‘제2회 대한민국 지속가능도시 평가’에서 시민행복도시 부문과 혁신미래도시 부문에서 각각 1위를 차지했다. 

한국정책경영연구원은 한국지역경영원 및 국회의원 18명과 공동 주최로 지난 7월 1일 국회의원회관에서 ‘제2회 대한민국 지속가능도시 평가 세미나’를 개최하고 그 결과를 발표했다.

과천시는 전국 226개 기초지자체와 17개 광역지자체를 대상으로 주민의 삶의 질, 미래 성장 잠재력, 환경적 건전성 등을 종합적으로 분석해 도시의 지속가능성을 측정한 평가에서 △시민행복도시 부문 82.897점, △혁신미래도시 부문 84.602점을 기록, 전국 75개 시 중 각각 1위를 차지하는 성과를 거뒀다.

과천시는 최근 우편으로 공문과 함께 상패를 전달받았다.

한국정책경영연구원은 통계청, 행정안전부, 문화체육관광부, 보건복지부, 국토교통부, 선거관리위원회 등에서 공표한 공식 통계자료에 기반한 88개 세부 지표를 활용해 △시민행복도시(경제·보건·안전) △혁신미래도시(교육·창의·연구·재정) △생명친화도시(사회안전망·참여·환경) 등 3개 부문에 대한 평가를 진행했다.

과천시는 생활환경 개선과 도시 경쟁력 강화를 위한 스마트 인프라 확충과천과천지구·과천주암지구 조성 사업 등의 개발 사업, 푸드테크 산업 육성 등을 통해 미래지향적 도시환경 조성을 위한 정책을 적극적으로 추진하고 있다. 이러한 점들이 혁신미래도시 부문 1위로 이어진 주요 요인으로 평가된다. 

또한 GTX-C노선, 과천위례선, 과천정보타운역 신설 등 교통 개선사업과 지식정보타운 기업 유치, 재난·안전 선제 대응 체계 확립, 다양한 문화예술 사업 추진 등 시민의  삶의 질을 높이는 다양한 정책이 시민행복도시 부문 1위 달성에 긍정적으로 작용한 것으로 보인다.

신계용 과천시장은 “이번 평가 결과는 과천이 행정 중심 도시에서 미래지향적 기업도시로 도약하고 있음을 보여주는 지표”라며 “지난 3년간 시민의 삶의 질 향상과 미래 대비를 위한 정책 성과를 객관적으로 인정받은 것”이라고 밝혔다. 

이어 “앞으로도 시민이 체감할 수 있는 정책을 꾸준히 추진하고, 지속가능한 도시 기반을 더욱 탄탄히 다져가겠다”고 밝혔다.

Gwacheon City, ‘2nd Korea Sustainable City Evaluation’ Double Crown

1st Place Nationwide in Citizen Happiness and Innovation Future Sectors… Hosted by Korea Policy Management Institute, Evaluation of 75 Cities Nationwide

Gwacheon City ranked first in the Citizen Happiness City and Innovation Future City sectors in the ‘2nd Korea Sustainable City Evaluation’ hosted by Korea Policy Management Institute.

Korea Policy Management Institute, together with Korea Regional Management Institute and 18 National Assembly members, held the ‘2nd Korea Sustainable City Evaluation Seminar’ at the National Assembly Members’ Hall on July 1 and announced the results. Gwacheon City recorded 82.897 points in the Citizen Happiness City category and 84.602 points in the Innovation Future City category in an evaluation that comprehensively analyzed the quality of life of residents, future growth potential, and environmental soundness of 226 basic local governments and 17 metropolitan governments nationwide to measure the sustainability of the city, ranking first among 75 cities nationwide.

Gwacheon City recently received an award plaque along with an official document by mail.

The Korea Institute for Policy Studies conducted an evaluation of three categories: Citizen Happiness City (economy, health, and safety), Innovation Future City (education, creativity, research, and finance), and Life-friendly City (social safety net, participation, and environment) using 88 detailed indicators based on official statistical data published by Statistics Korea, Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and National Election Commission. Gwacheon City is actively pursuing policies to create a future-oriented urban environment through development projects such as the Gwacheon-Gwacheon District and Gwacheon-Juam District development projects to improve the living environment and enhance urban competitiveness, and the fostering of food tech industries. These factors are evaluated as the main factors that led to its ranking first in the innovation and future city sector.

In addition, various policies to improve the quality of life of citizens, such as the GTX-C Line, Gwacheon Wirye Line, and the establishment of Gwacheon Information Town Station, attracting companies to the Knowledge Information Town, establishing a preemptive disaster and safety response system, and promoting various cultural and artistic projects, seem to have had a positive effect on achieving first place in the Citizen Happiness City sector.

Gwacheon Mayor Shin Gye-yong said, “The results of this evaluation are indicators that Gwacheon is making a leap forward from an administrative city to a future-oriented corporate city,” and “It is objective recognition of the policy achievements for improving the quality of life of citizens and preparing for the future over the past three years.”

He continued, “We will continue to steadily pursue policies that citizens can feel and further solidify the foundation of a sustainable city.”
