2026년 6월 3일 치러지는 제9회 전국동시지방선거가 불과 8개월 여 앞으로 다가왔다. 제9회 전국동시지방선거는 민선 8기의 시도지사 및 시군구청장과 광역 및 기초단체 의회 의원, 시도 교육감을 선출하는 선거로, 국회의원 재보궐선거가 동시에 치러진다.

이미 내년 선거를 준비하는 물밑에서의 작업은 치열하게 진행 중이다. 특히 당내 경선을 거쳐 후보를 정하는 더불어민주당의 내년 선거 출마 희망자들은 지난 8월 31일 마감되는 선거권을 행사할 수 있는 당원모집에 총력을 다하는 모습을 보였다. 제9회 전국동시지방선거 경선에도 적용될 것으로 보이는 더불어민주당의 ‘제8회 전국동시지방선거 후보자 추천을 위한 경선시행세칙’ 제1장 총칙 제2조 2항에는 “‘권리당원선거인단’이란 해당 선거구의 권리당원 중 권리행사 시행일을 기준으로 하여 6개월 이전까지 입당하고 권리행사 시행일 전 12개월 이내에 6회 이상 당비를 납부한 자를 말한다”고 규정하고 있기 때문이다.

더불어민주당의 안양시장 후보 경선 출마 예상 후보자는 더불어민주당에서는 최대호 안양시장, 임채호 경기도의회 사무처장, 조용덕 안양시의회 의정회장, 정기열 전 경기도의회 의장 등이다.

안양시장 3연임에 도전하는 최대호 안양시장은 두 번 연속으로 시장을 연임하며 3선 시장으로서 이룩한 업적이 자랑거리다. 유엔 인증 스마트도시, FC안양 K리그1 승격, 자율주행버스 ‘주야로’ 상용화 등 최 시장은 지난 11년간 ‘스마트행정’이라는 방향성을 흔들림 없이 밀고 왔다. 그 결과 안양시는 이집트의 신수도인 ‘누어 스마트시티’ 개발 모델로 선정돼 안양시 스마트도시통합센터의 첨단 기술과 경험이 누어 스마트시티에 적용될 예정일 정도로 국내 자치단체 가운데 스마트시티를 향해 가장 빠른 발걸음을 내딛고 있다.
