“스타트업 천국 대한민국을 만들기 위한 지원을 계속하겠다.”

김동연 지사가 지난 11월 7일 제2판교테크노밸리 글로벌비즈센터에서 열린 ‘한국 혁신 스타트업 서밋(Korea Innovators Community Summit)’에 참석해 “세계경제포럼이 개별 국가와는 처음으로 하는 스타트업 프로그램이어서 더욱 의미가 크다”면서 이같이 말했다.

‘한국 혁신 스타트업 서밋’은 경기도와 세계경제포럼이 공동개최하는 스타트업을 위한 행사. 세계경제포럼은 전 세계 정부, 기업, 학계, 시민사회 등 각계 리더들이 모여 세계 경제와 사회의 주요 현안에 대해 논의하고 해결 방안을 모색하는 국제 비영리 민간회의로 매년 1월 스위스 다보스에서 열리는 연차총회(다보스 포럼)를 개최하는 기관이다.

김동연 지사는 환영사에서 “세계경제포럼과 함께 코리아 프런티어스 프로그램을 하게 됐다. 코리아프런티어스를 필두로 유니콘기업이 탄생하도록 전폭 지원하겠다”고 밝혔다.

김동연 지사는 이어서 “오래 전부터 경기도를 넘어 대한민국을 스타트업 천국으로 만드는 꿈을 꾸어 왔고 이를 위해 두 가지를 꾸준히 추진해왔다”며, “첫 번째는 스타트업의 무대를 세계로 넓히고 과감하게 투자하는 것, 두 번째는 스타트업 지원 시스템과 생태계를 바꾸는 것”이라고 말했다.

김 지사는 “약 2년 8개월 전에 약속한 경기도 투자 유치 100조원 목표는 지난주 보스턴 출장 중에 조기 달성 했다. 투자 대부분이 생태계 조성과 관련된 만큼 스타트업들에게 더 많은 기회가 생겨났다”며, “판교+20프로젝트를 통해 20만 평 규모의 창업 공간을 도내 20곳으로 확장해서 클러스터를 구축하고 있다. 520여개 기업이 참여하는 경기 스타트업 협의회를 출범시켰고, 지난달에는 스타트업 창업 성장 전 단계를 지원하는 경기 스타트업 브릿지도 개소했다. 며칠 전에는 경기도가 육성해온 스타트업 네 곳이 세계 최대 전시회에서 혁신상을 수상했다”며, “앞으로도 계속 혁신 스타트업을 발굴하고 생태계를 조성하고 커뮤니케이션을 더 확대시키고 세계 진출을 위한 글로벌기회를 제공하겠다”고 강조했다.

이번 행사는 경기도와 세계경제포럼이 함께 선정한 한국 대표 혁신 스타트업과 국내 유니콘 기업, 글로벌 벤처투자자들이 한자리에 모여 협력 방안을 논의한 첫 공식 무대로, 한국 스타트업의 세계시장 진출을 위한 의미 있는 출발점이 됐다.

행사에는 세계경제포럼 제레미 저긴스 총괄임원(Managing Director)을 비롯해 야놀자·루닛·딥엑스·업스테이지 등 국내 대표 AI·테크 스타트업 CEO, 주요 투자기관 관계자 등 200여 명이 참석했다.

이날 행사에서는 경기도 4차산업혁명센터와 세계경제포럼(WEF)이 공동 개발한 대한민국 최초의 글로벌 스타트업 육성 프로젝트 ‘코리아 프론티어스(Korea Frontiers)’가 공식 출범했다.

코리아 프론티어스 1기로 선정된 30개 스타트업은 2년간 세계경제포럼 혁신가 커뮤니티에 참여하며 글로벌 네트워킹 및 시장 진출 기회를 얻게 된다. 선정 기업의 80% 이상은 누적 투자액 50억 원 이상, 이 중 15개사는 100억 원 이상을 유치한 기업이다.

경기도는 이번 서밋을 계기로 세계경제포럼 20여개 글로벌 센터와의 협력을 강화하고, ‘코리아 프론티어스’ 프로그램을 중심으로 국내 혁신기업의 해외 진출을 지속 지원할 계획이다.

김동연 지사는 지난해 1월 다보스포럼에 참석해 세계경제포럼측과 경기도에 4차산업혁명센터 설립을 위한 양해각서(MOU)를 체결했다. 이후 경기도는 올초 한국 최초로 4차산업혁명센터를 판교에 설립해 국내 선도적 스타트업을 발굴해 커뮤니티를 구성하고, 세계 스타트업들과 협력할 수 있는 기회를 제공하는 역할을 하고 있다.

Governor Kim Dong-yeon attended the 'Korea Innovators Community Summit' held at the Global Biz Center in Pangyo Techno Valley 2 on November 7th. He said, "This is the first startup program the World Economic Forum has conducted with an individual country, making it all the more meaningful."

The 'Korea Innovators Community Summit' is a startup event co-hosted by Gyeonggi Province and the World Economic Forum. Governor Kim stated, "We achieved our goal of attracting 100 trillion won in investment in Gyeonggi Province, which we promised about two years and eight months ago, ahead of schedule during our business trip to Boston last week. He added, "Through the Pangyo+20 Project, we are expanding startup space to 20 locations across the province, creating a cluster. The event officially launched "Korea Frontiers," South Korea's first global startup incubation project, jointly developed by the Gyeonggi Province Fourth Industrial Revolution Center and the World Economic Forum (WEF).

The 30 startups selected for the first round of Korea Frontiers will participate in the WEF's innovator community for two years, gaining access to global networking and market entry opportunities. More than 80% of the selected companies have raised over KRW 5 billion in cumulative investment, and 15 of them have raised over KRW 10 billion.

Gyeonggi Province plans to use this summit as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation with approximately 20 WEF global centers and continue to support the overseas expansion of domestic innovative companies, focusing on the "Korea Frontiers" program.
