며칠 전 미국 시사주간지 유에스뉴스(USNews)가 글로벌 인식 조사에서 한국을 세계 6위의 강대국으로 평가했다. 7위가 프랑스, 8위가 일본이다. 한국보다 2배의 경제력을 가진 일본은 경제력 외에 문화력, 리더국으로서의 위상, 정치, 국제동맹, 군사력, 기술혁신, 문화력 등 종합평가에서 한국의 복합국력에서 밀려 8위가 되었다. 한국의 복합국력은 청계천과 한강이 자연과 인간의 삶이 어우러져 복합력을 보여주는 유일한 강이라는 전문가들의 평가에서도 나타난다.

청계천의 역사

나이가 많은 사람들은 청계천의 역사를 기억하고 있다. 도심 한복판에 맑은 물이 흐르고 자연이 되돌아온 청계천은, 1950년대 중반까지 다닥다닥 붙은 판자촌이 천변을 가득 메우고 있었다. 찢어지게 가난했던 사람이 부자가 되면 세 부류로 나뉜다. 힘들고 어려웠던 고단한 삶을 다른 사람들이 알까 두려워 숨기며 부자라고 뻐기는 사람, 자신의 어려움을 말하며 입지전적 인물임을 내세우는 사람, 힘들었던 삶이나 부자인 삶이나 삶의 한 모습으로 인정하고 그대로 수용하는 자연스러운 사람. 첫 번째와 두 번째 유형은 심리적인 문제를 가진다. 세 번째 유형이 환경에 따라 부침하지 않는 자연스러움이 몸에 밴 사람이다. 도(道)가 트인 사람이 아닐까?

새로운 문명을 열어갈 한국

철의 발명이 그 이전의 문명과 그 이후의 문명을 갈랐듯이 AI 혁명은 새로운 차원의 문명으로 도약하게 만들 것으로 문명사가들은 진단한다. 고대의 노예제가 근대에 시민사회로 바뀌었는데, 미래는 어떤 사회가 될까? 한국이 AI 거점 국가가 될 조건이 충족되면서, 부자가 된 사람의 마음가짐은 어떠해야 하는지 심각하게 묻게 된다. 복합국력으로 부자가 된 한국이 새 시대를 이끌어가게 될 확률이 크기 때문이다.

물질적 진보를 이룬 1층 문명이 이제 마음의 진보도 중요한 2층 문명으로 나아갈 것이다. 부자가 되어가는 인류가 세 번째 마음인 도(道)가 트인 사람이 되는 방법이 인류 전체에 필요하게 되었다. 누가 알랴? 2층 문명으로 발전하지 않으면, 속 좁은 마음으로 3차 세계대전이 터질지 모르지 않는가!

청계천과 한강을 환골탈퇴 시킨 한국인의 저력을 보고 한국이 미래를 이끌어가기를 외국인들이 더 기대할지 모른다. 갈수록 많아질 변수들을 통합하는 복합국력이 더 필요하게 될 것이기 때문이다.

Japan, with twice the economic power of Korea, ranked eighth in a comprehensive assessment that considered economic strength, cultural power, leadership status, politics, international alliances, military power, technological innovation, and cultural power. Korea's composite national power is also reflected in experts' assessments that Cheonggyecheon and the Han River are the only rivers where nature and human life harmonize to demonstrate this composite power.

The History of Cheonggyecheon

Older people remember the history of Cheonggyecheon. Cheonggyecheon, with its clear waters flowing through the heart of the city and its natural beauty, was filled with shantytowns built close together until the mid-1950s. When someone who was once extremely poor becomes wealthy, they fall into three categories.
