경기도교육청(교육감 임태희)이 오는 12월부터 다문화학생의 한국어 교육과 안정된 교육 환경 구축을 위한 경기한국어랭귀지스쿨･자기주도학습센터 연계 통합 다문화교육과 한국어 선 이수제를 운영한다. 포천경기한국어랭귀지스쿨이 다문화학생의 공교육 진입 전 한국어 집중교육을 사전 이수하는 한국어 선이수제를 최초로 시범 운영한다. 이를 통해 다문화학생이 언어 미해득으로 인한 학습 부진을 해소하고 학교 적응을 돕는다. 시범 운영 효과성 검증 후 도내 전 지역으로 확대할 예정이다.

통합 다문화교육은 한국어 집중교육을 위한 ‘경기한국어랭귀지스쿨’과 교육부 주관 자기주도학습센터를 결합한 전국 최초 통합 다문화교육 모델. ‘한국어 선이수제’는 공교육 진입 전 다문화학생의 한국어교육 사전 이수 정책이다.

포천경기한국어랭귀지스쿨 입학식이 지난 11월 18일 포천 대진대학교에서 열렸다. 포천 지역은 지난 10월 관내 7개 자기주도학습센터를 개소했다. 이번 경기한국어랭귀지스쿨과의 통합 교육 기반 조성으로 기존 방과 후에만 활용되는 공간을 일과 중 다문화학생을 위한 한국어 집중교육과 적응을 돕는 공간으로 활용하게 된다. 입학식에는 임태희 교육감을 비롯해 백영현 포천시장, 김유열 EBS 사장, 장석환 대진대학교 총장, 윤충식･김성남 경기도의원, 학생, 교원, 학부모 등 130여 명이 참석했다.

이날 임태희 교육감은 축사에서 “다문화학생이 언어 장벽으로 수업을 따라가지 못하는 현실을 외면할 수 없었다”며, “공교육 진입 전 한국어 기초를 다지는 경기한국어랭귀지스쿨을 만들었다”고 말했다.

임 교육감은 “시범 운영 결과 한국어 집중교육을 받은 다문화학생의 학교 수업 참여가 개선됐다”면서 “한국어 선 이수제와 통합 교육을 경기도 전역으로 확산하겠다”고 강조했다.

포천경기한국어랭귀지스쿨은 포천시청이 주도적으로 운영하며 다문화 교육력을 높이는 지역 연계 모델로 운영될 예정이다.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Tae-hee) will launch an integrated multicultural education and Korean language pre-completion program in conjunction with the Gyeonggi Korean Language School and Self-Directed Learning Center starting in December. This program aims to provide Korean language education and a stable educational environment for multicultural students. The Pocheon Gyeonggi Korean Language School will pilot the program, providing multicultural students with intensive Korean language instruction prior to entering public education. This program will address learning difficulties caused by language inadequacy and facilitate their adaptation to school life. The integrated multicultural education model is the nation's first integrated multicultural education program, combining the Gyeonggi Korean Language School, a Korean language intensive program, with the Ministry of Education's Self-Directed Learning Center. The "Korean Language Pre-Completion Program" is a policy designed to ensure that multicultural students complete Korean language instruction prior to entering public education. The Pocheon Gyeonggi Korean Language School entrance ceremony was held at Daejin University in Pocheon on November 18th. The Pocheon region opened seven self-directed learning centers in October. With this integrated educational foundation established with the Gyeonggi Korean Language School, spaces previously used only after-school will now be utilized during the day for intensive Korean language instruction and adaptation support for multicultural students.
