의왕시의회는 한채훈 의원이 오는 2월 2일 오후 2시, 의왕시의회 중회의실에서 ‘의왕시 청년지원센터 2.0 정책토론회’를 개최한다고 밝혔다.

이번 토론회는 제9대 의왕시의회 임기 중 열리는 12번째 정책토론회로, 그동안 장소 대여와 물품 공유 등 기초 서비스 제공에 머물러 온 의왕시 청년공간 정책의 한계를 진단하고, 청년의 삶을 실질적으로 보호·지원하는 전문 정책 거점으로의 전환 방안을 모색하기 위해 마련됐다.

좌장을 맡은 한채훈 의원은 “현재의 공간 중심 운영 방식만으로는 청년의 삶을 실질적으로 바꾸기 어렵다”며 “특히 행정 중심지였던 고천동 청년발전소 폐쇄는 청년 접근성과 권익을 고려하지 않은 정책적 후퇴”라고 지적했다.

이날 토론회에는 전국 단위 청년정책 전문가들이 대거 참여해 논의의 무게감을 더할 예정이다. 문재인 정부 시절 청년정책을 총괄했던 김광진 전 국회의원을 비롯해 최찬규 안산시의원, 권아름 원주시의원, 이성재 전 제주청년센터장 등 현장과 정책을 아우르는 전문가들이 참석해 의왕 청년정책의 방향성을 논의한다.

발제를 맡은 박현호 의원은 현행 ‘의왕시 청년 기본 조례’의 제도적 한계를 분석하고, 청년지원센터의 기능을 ‘단순 이용 공간’에서 ‘정책 허브’로 격상하는 방안을 제시할 예정이다.

이어지는 종합토론에서는 노무·법률·주거 분야 전문 상담 기능 강화, 글로벌 네트워크 연계 방안, 민간 전문성을 결합한 운영 모델 구축 등 청년의 실질적 권익 보호를 위한 구체적 정책 대안이 논의된다.

한채훈 의원은 “청년지원센터 2.0은 시설 확충의 문제가 아니라, 전세 사기나 부당 해고 등 위기에 놓인 청년이 가장 먼저 찾을 수 있는 공적 안전망을 구축하는 일”이라며 “이번 토론회에서 제시된 의견을 바탕으로 박현호 의원과 협력해 ‘의왕시 청년 기본 조례’ 개정과 실효성 있는 예산 확보로 이어질 수 있도록 하겠다”고 밝혔다.
