김성제 의왕시장이 의왕·군포·안산 3기 신도시 내 의왕 자원회수시설 설치 계획과 관련해 전면 백지화를 추진하겠다고 밝혔다.

김 시장은 지난 2일 시청 대회의실에서 열린 월례조회에서 “논란이 된 자원회수시설 설치 계획은 전면 백지화 방향으로 검토하겠다”며 “시민 의견을 최우선으로 반영해 합리적인 대안을 마련하겠다”고 말했다.

의왕시는 국토교통부와 한국토지주택공사(LH)와 협의를 거쳐 자원회수시설 설치 백지화에 따른 지구계획 변경 방안을 논의하고, 상반기 중 의왕시 전체 폐기물 발생량과 처리 방안을 종합 검토하는 타당성 조사 용역을 추진할 계획이다. 이후 주민 대표와 전문가, 시의원 등이 참여하는 입지선정위원회를 구성해 최종 대안을 마련한다는 방침이다.
