봄을 재촉하는 보슬비가 대지를 촉촉이 적시던 지난 3월 18일, 안양·군포·의왕·과천의 정론직필을 이끌어온 본지 ‘주간현대신문&경기브레이크뉴스’ 자문위원회가 의왕시 토평동 소재 ‘바다상회’에서 신년 첫 만남을 가졌다.

이날 모임에는 이여춘 본지 발행인을 비롯해 지역 사회의 든든한 조언자 역할을 해온 자문위원단 15명이 참석했다. 위원들은 싱싱한 해산물과 뜨끈한 칼국수로 정성껏 마련된 식사를 나누며 겨우내 안부를 묻고, 인근 카페로 자리를 옮겨 본격적인 자문회의를 이어갔다.

먼저 이여춘 발행인은 지난 한 해의 경과를 보고하고, 다가오는 4월 1일 창간 18주년 기념행사의 밑그림을 공유했다. 이 발행인은 “수많은 지역 매체가 명멸하는 어려운 환경 속에서도 주간현대신문&경기브레이크뉴스가 꿋꿋이 자리를 지킬 수 있었던 것은 오로지 자문위원 여러분의 애정 어린 성원 덕분”이라며 고개 숙여 감사를 표했다.

이에 남상덕 자문위원장(NS홀딩스 대표이사)은 “지역의 공적인 일을 내 대신 맡아 해내고 있다는 믿음이 있기에 늘 응원하게 된다”며, “녹록지 않은 세월을 버티며 지역의 목소리를 대변해 온 신문의 공로가 크다”고 화답해 좌중의 박수를 이끌어냈다.

자리를 함께한 위원들 역시 각별한 소회를 쏟아냈다. 위원들은 “신문의 18년사가 내가 이 지역에서 살아온 내력과 겹쳐 있어 더욱 애틋하다”, “오래도록 한결같이 지역을 지켜온 매체라는 점에 자부심을 느껴도 좋다”며 긴 호흡으로 함께 가자는 덕담을 건넸다.

특히 이날 모임은 남상덕 위원장이 직접 경영하는 지역의 핫플레이스 ‘바다상회’에서 푸짐한 음식과 편안한 공간을 제공해, 위원들이 한층 화기애애한 분위기 속에서 지역의 미래를 논할 수 있는 가교가 되었다.
