경기도의회 성복임 의원(더불어민주당, 군포4)이 지난 6월 20일 경기도의회 대회의실에서 열린 ‘다시! 시작이다! 민주시민교육 워크숍’에 참석해 민주시민교육의 중요성을 강조하고, 경기도 차원의 활성화 의지를 밝혔다.

이번 워크숍은 민주시민교육의 새로운 사업 방향과 과제를 논의하고, 학교와 주민자치 영역에서 민주시민교육의 체계화와 전문화를 모색하기 위해 마련됐다. 행사에서는 경기도 시민강사단협의회가 발족돼 지역별 교육 콘텐츠를 공유하고 향후 사업 추진 방향을 논의했다.

성 의원은 축사를 통해 “군포시의원 재임 당시 민주시민교육 조례를 대표발의해 민주시민교육센터 설치의 기반을 마련했다”며 “이후 센터가 운영을 종료한 것은 아쉬움으로 남아 있지만, 민주시민교육의 가치는 여전히 중요하다”고 말했다.

이어 “경기도 역시 그동안 민주시민교육 활성화를 위해 더 많은 역할이 필요했다”며 “앞으로 민주시민교육이 경기도 31개 시·군 곳곳에 확산될 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 강조했다.

성복임 의원은 “민주시민교육은 시민이 주체가 되는 민주사회의 기반”이라며 “이번 워크숍이 시민 참여와 소통의 가치를 되새기고, 지역사회에서 민주시민교육이 더욱 활성화되는 계기가 되길 바란다”고 밝혔다.

Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Member Seong Bok-im (Democratic Party of Korea, Gunpo 4) attended the ‘Restart! It Starts Again! Democratic Citizenship Education Workshop’ held in the main conference room of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly on June 20. During the event, she emphasized the importance of democratic citizenship education and expressed her determination to revitalize it at the provincial level.

This workshop was organized to discuss new project directions and tasks for democratic citizenship education, and to seek the systematization and professionalization of democratic citizenship education in the fields of schools and local self-governance. At the event, the Gyeonggi Citizen Instructor Corps Council was launched, where regional educational content was shared and future project directions were discussed. In her congratulatory remarks, Council Member Seong stated, “During my tenure as a Gunpo City Council member, I initiated the Democratic Citizenship Education Ordinance, laying the foundation for the establishment of the Democratic Citizenship Education Center.” She added, “While it is regrettable that the center has since ceased operations, the value of democratic citizenship education remains important.”
