어둡고 삭막했던 안양1번가 지하보도가 시민들이 머물고 감상하는 도심 속 문화·예술 공간으로 새롭게 탈바꿈했다.

안양시는 25일 오후 3시 안양1동 행정복지센터 앞에서 ‘안양1번가 지하보도 내부공간 환경정비사업’의 결과물인 ‘일번가 아래 갤러리’ 개관식을 열고 시민들에게 새로운 공공문화 공간을 공개했다.

이번 사업을 통해 조성된 갤러리는 안양1동 행정복지센터 앞에서 공영주차장 삼거리까지 이어지는 약 100m 길이, 폭 3m 규모의 지하보도 구간을 활용해 만들어졌다. 기존의 노후 시설물을 철거하고 고보 조명과 파노라마 조명을 설치해 어둡고 답답했던 공간을 감성적인 분위기의 전시 공간으로 재구성했다.

또한 지하 공간 특성을 고려해 습기에 강한 마감재와 내구성이 높은 시설물을 적용해 안전성과 유지관리 효율성도 함께 확보했다.

벽면은 전시 갤러리로 활용돼 시민들이 일상 속 이동 과정에서도 자연스럽게 문화·예술 작품을 감상할 수 있도록 구성됐다. 단순 통행로를 넘어 ‘머무는 공간’으로 기능을 확장한 점이 이번 사업의 핵심이다.

“지하보도의 재해석”… 청년 예술 협업 전시

개관과 함께 선보인 첫 전시의 주제는 ‘공간의 반전과 확장’이다. 평범한 지하보도를 문화공간으로 재해석하며 도시 공간이 지닌 새로운 가능성을 보여주는 데 초점을 맞췄다.

특히 이번 전시는 지역 청년들과의 협업으로 완성돼 의미를 더했다. 연성대학교 시각디자인과 학생들이 세계적인 건축가 33인의 건축 작품을 인포그래픽 형식으로 재해석한 33점의 작품이 전시돼 관람객들에게 신선한 시각 경험을 제공한다. 청년 디자이너들의 창의적인 감각이 공공공간에 자연스럽게 녹아들면서, 시민들은 일상 동선 속에서 예술을 접하는 새로운 경험을 하게 됐다.

원도심 공공디자인 확장 모델로

이날 개관식에는 안양1동 주민자치회를 비롯해 시·도의원, 연성대학교 학생 및 지도교수 등 30여 명이 참석해 개관을 축하했다.

안양시는 이번 사업을 시작으로 원도심 내 노후 유휴공간을 지속적으로 문화·예술 기반의 공공디자인 공간으로 재생해 나간다는 계획이다.

최대호 안양시장은 “단순 통행로로만 기능하던 지하보도를 예술과 디자인이 흐르는 열린 전시공간으로 바꾼 의미 있는 사례”라며 “앞으로도 시민이 일상에서 체감할 수 있는 공공디자인 사업을 통해 도시 공간의 품격을 높여가겠다”고 말했다.

On the afternoon of the 25th at 3 p.m., Anyang City held an opening ceremony for the ‘Gallery Beneath Ilbeonga,’ the result of the ‘Anyang 1st Street Underpass Interior Space Environmental Improvement Project,’ in front of the Anyang 1-dong Administrative Welfare Center, unveiling this new public cultural space to the public.

The gallery created through this project utilized a section of the underpass approximately 100 meters long and 3 meters wide, extending from the Anyang 1-dong Administrative Welfare Center to the Public Parking Lot Intersection.
