안양중학교가 마련한 ‘2026 안양 환경과학축전’이 지난 5월 23일 학생과 시민 500여 명이 참여한 가운데 성황리에 개최됐다.

이번 축전은 안양시민을 대상으로 사전 예약을 통해 운영됐으며, 학생들이 직접 기획하고 진행하는 메이커 체험과 환경 프로그램을 결합한 참여형 과학축제로 꾸며졌다.

행사는 안양중학교 잔디구장에서 열린 ‘그린리더 메이커 페스티벌’을 중심으로 진행됐다. 안양중 학생 70여 명은 멘토가 되어 시민들과 함께 다양한 과학 만들기 체험을 진행하며 12개 메이커 부스를 운영했다.

특히 모든 체험 프로그램에는 친환경 요소를 접목했다. 참가자들은 디지털 로봇과 과학공예를 체험하는 것은 물론, 친환경 생활용품인 ‘설거지 바’를 직접 만들며 환경보호의 의미를 배우는 시간을 가졌다.

체험은 모두 5개 꾸러미 형태로 구성됐다. 오프로드 탱크와 범퍼카, 풍력자동차, 태양광 자동차, 오르골 뻐꾸기시계, 원통 램프, 전통 오토마타 등 과학 원리를 활용한 다양한 작품을 직접 제작하며 과학에 대한 흥미를 높였다.

가장 큰 인기를 끈 프로그램은 움직이는 원리를 체험할 수 있는 메이커 부스였다. 초스피드 범퍼카와 오프로드 전차, 매직 자이로스코프 등은 어린이들의 발길이 이어졌으며, 태양광 자동차와 기울기 센서를 활용한 조명 만들기 등 환경과 공학을 접목한 체험도 높은 호응을 얻었다.

운영본부에서는 과학마술 공연과 팝콘 체험 부스도 함께 운영해 축제 분위기를 더했다. 학생들은 행사에 앞서 직접 체험 콘텐츠를 제작하고 운영 방법을 익히며 시민들에게 보다 나은 교육 서비스를 제공하기 위해 준비에 힘을 쏟았다.

행사에 참여한 한 시민은 “아이가 행사만 기다릴 정도로 기대가 컸는데 직접 체험해 보니 너무 즐거워했다”며 “학생 멘토들이 친절하게 설명해 줘 더욱 뜻깊은 시간이었다”고 소감을 전했다.

행사에 멘토로 참여한 한 안양중학교 학생은 “아이들을 가르치면서 책임감과 배려심을 기를 수 있었어요. 그리고 아이들이 자기가 만든 것이 제대로 움직이는 것에 기뻐하는 모습을 보면서 마치 내가 만든 것처럼 뿌듯했습니다”라고 말했다.

This festival was operated through advance reservations for Anyang citizens, and was designed as a participatory science festival that combined maker experience and environmental programs directly planned and conducted by students.

The event was centered around the ‘Green Leader Maker Festival’ held at Anyang Middle School’s lawn stadium. About 70 students from Anyang Middle School served as mentors and operated 12 maker booths while conducting various science-making experiences with citizens.
