15년에 걸쳐 추진된 경기융합타운 조성사업이 모든 공공기관 입주와 공공공간 개방을 마치며 마침내 완성됐다. 행정기관을 한곳에 집약한 업무 기능은 물론 문화와 휴식, 소통 공간까지 갖춘 새로운 복합 행정도시가 모습을 드러냈다.

경기도는 지난 10일 경기정원을 시민에게 개방하면서 경기융합타운 조성사업을 모두 마무리했다고 20일 밝혔다.

경기융합타운은 수원 광교 일원에 조성된 복합 행정타운으로, 경기도청과 경기도의회, 경기도교육청, 경기주택도시공사(GH), 경기신용보증재단, 한국은행 경기본부, 경기도서관, 이의119안전센터 등이 들어서 있다. 현재 약 5천 명이 상주 근무하는 경기도 대표 행정 거점이다.

사업은 당초 경기도청과 경기도의회 신청사 건립을 목표로 시작됐지만, 2016년부터 공공기관을 함께 배치하는 융·복합 행정타운으로 방향을 전환하며 규모와 기능이 한층 확대됐다.

이후 2021년 경기도청과 도의회 신청사가 먼저 문을 열었고, 2023년에는 경기도교육청과 이의119안전센터가 입주했다. 지난해에는 한국은행 경기본부와 경기신용보증재단, 경기주택도시공사 신사옥 및 복합시설관이 차례로 들어섰으며, 올해 2월 경기도서관 개관과 민간 주상복합시설 입주까지 이어지면서 전체 사업이 사실상 마무리됐다.
