안양시가 광역철도망 시대에 대비해 한국철도공사 안양관리역과 손잡고 철도 중심의 도시 경쟁력 강화에 나섰다. 향후 위례과천선과 서울 서부선 연장, GTX-C, 월곶~판교선, 인덕원~동탄선 등 광역철도망을 유기적으로 연결해 ‘안양형 압축도시(Compact City)’를 구현한다는 구상이다.

안양시는 21일 안양역에서 안양관리역과 ‘지역 상생 교통서비스 활성화를 위한 업무협약’을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

협약식에는 이계삼 안양시 부시장과 백학선 안양관리역장 등이 참석해 미래 철도망 확충에 대비한 협력 방안을 논의했다.

이번 협약은 신설될 철도역을 중심으로 대중교통 환승체계를 개선하고 역세권 개발과 교통복지 서비스를 확대하기 위해 마련됐다.

안양관리역은 안양·과천·군포권 15개 역을 관리하며, 이 가운데 7개 역이 안양시에 위치해 있어 철도 행정의 핵심 거점 역할을 하고 있다.

양 기관은 철도와 시내·마을·광역버스 연계를 강화하고, 장애인·임산부·고령자를 위한 ‘착한수레’와 ‘바우처택시’ 이용 환경을 개선하기로 했다. 또 석수·명학·평촌·범계역 리모델링과 연계한 역사 환경 개선에도 협력할 계획이다.

역사 내 AI 대화형 스마트 버스정보시스템 구축도 추진한다. 향후 시외버스 운행정보까지 연계하는 통합 교통정보 서비스를 검토하고, 장기적으로는 환승 대기시간을 줄이기 위한 버스 노선 조정도 추진할 방침이다.

안양시는 이번 협약을 계기로 추진 중인 광역철도망 구축사업에도 속도를 낼 계획이다.

현재 시는 정부의 국가철도망 구축계획에 ▲위례과천선 안양 연장 ▲서울 서부선 안양 연장 반영을 추진하고 있다.

위례과천선은 정부과천청사에서 비산동을 거쳐 KTX 광명역까지, 서울 서부선은 서울대입구역에서 평촌신도시까지 연결하는 계획이다. 노선이 구축되면 서울대입구까지 10분대, 여의도까지 20분대 접근이 가능해질 것으로 기대된다.

추진 중인 광역철도망과의 연계 효과도 크다. 월곶~판교선이 개통되면 안양역과 인덕원역의 환승 기능이 강화되고, 인덕원~동탄선은 인덕원역을 경기 남부권 핵심 환승거점으로 성장시킬 전망이다.

안양시는 기존 1·4호선과 GTX-C, 월곶~판교선, 인덕원~동탄선, 신안산선에 위례과천선·서울 서부선 연장, KTX-이음 안양역 정차까지 연계해 철도 중심의 ‘안양형 압축도시’를 단계적으로 구축한다는 전략이다.
