Gwacheon Performing Arts Festival Returns as ‘GPAF CITY 2.0,’ Expanding Performances, Experiences, and Citizen Participation

Performance frequency doubled from September 18 to 20 in the area around Gwacheon Citizen Plaza and Citizen Hall

The 2026 Gwacheon Performing Arts Festival, opening this coming September, welcomes visitors with a significantly evolved format, substantially expanding the scale of performances and citizen participation programs. Leading with ‘GPAF CITY 2.0,’ an expansion of the festival worldview ‘GPAF CITY’ introduced last year, the festival plans to present an urban performing arts festival that harmonizes performances, experiences, and relaxation.

Gwacheon City announced that it held a festival progress report meeting at the City Hall auditorium on the 5th to share the status of preparations and key operational plans. Approximately 50 people attended the briefing session held on this day, including officials from Gwacheon City and the Gwacheon Cultural Foundation, the festival's general director, members of the Gwacheon City Council, citizens, and local artists. They reviewed key programs, spatial layouts, and operational plans, and discussed strategies for hosting a successful festival.

This year's festival, under the concept of "Floating," will transform the area around Gwacheon Citizens' Plaza and the Civic Center into a single performing arts city. "Log" and "G-Pop," the festival characters that garnered a positive response from citizens last year, will return to welcome visitors, and a new space called "G-Pop Village" will be created where performances, experiences, and relaxation coexist.

The performance program will also become significantly richer. The number of official open call entries and invited international performance teams has been expanded, and the number of performances has been more than doubled compared to last year, allowing more citizens to enjoy performances across various genres.

Programs that allow for direct citizen participation will also be strengthened. Citizen performers selected through an open recruitment process will participate in a citizen participation parade connecting Jungang-ro and Cheongsa-ro on September 19. Additionally, the existing "Citizen Festival (Sihanjan)" has been reorganized into the "Gwacheon Gathering Show," expanding the number of participating performance teams to six.

Experiential content for family visitors is also drawing attention. New additions include the children's experience program "G-Pop Playground," as well as the G-Pop Market and Farmers Market, allowing visitors to enjoy diverse cultural experiences and relaxation alongside the performances.

Gwacheon City is also enhancing safety and visitor convenience during the festival. The city plans to focus on creating a pleasant and safe festival environment by installing palm mats and awnings to prepare for rain and reinforcing the on-site safety management system. Gwacheon Mayor Shin Gye-yong stated, “This year, we have further expanded the ‘G-Pop City’ worldview, which was first introduced last year, to strengthen performance content and citizen participation programs.” He added, “We will meticulously prepare for safety and overall operations leading up to the opening of the festival to create an event that both citizens and visitors can enjoy with peace of mind.”

Meanwhile, the 2026 Gwacheon Performing Arts Festival will be held for three days from September 18 to 20 at Gwacheon Citizen Plaza and the Gwacheon Citizen Hall area. Detailed programs and lineups will be revealed sequentially through the festival’s official website and social media.
