김동연 경기도지사가 북미지역 방문 중에 최근 인공지능(AI) 산업 분야에서 가장 두각을 나타내고 있는 미국의 엔비디아(NVIDIA)와 구글 본사를 찾아 경기도와의 협력 방안에 대해 의견을 나눴다. 이날 만남에는 경기도의 인공지능 관련 기업인 NHN CLOUD, ㈜새론솔루션, ㈜에이아이포블록체인, ㈜크래플, 에이블제이 주식회사 등 5개 사가 함께했다.
김동연 지사는 현지 시각 지난 5월 7일 오후 산타클라라에 위치한 엔비디아(NVIDIA) 본사를 방문, 샨커 트리베디(Shanker Trivedi) 수석 부사장과의 면담에서 경기도가 추진 중인 AI데이터센터 구축에 엔비디아의 AI반도체와 기술이 필요하다고 지원을 요청했다.

김동연 지사는 “시흥 서울대병원이 AI 메디컬데이터센터를 구상하고 있다. 넓은 부지를 갖고 있고 바이오기업들이 입주할 예정”이라며 “경기북부지역에도 AI데이터센터를 추진할 계획으로 문화나 기후 같은 특정 분야에 특화된 데이터센터를 만들고 싶다. 엔비디아와 경기도의 협력을 더욱더 강화하고 구체적인 협력 분야를 찾을 수 있도록 실무그룹을 구성해서 연락을 유지했으면 한다”고 제안했다.
샨커 트리베디 수석 부사장은 이에 대해 “두 개의 데이터센터 모두 엔비디아가 필요한 솔루션을 제공해 드릴 수 있다. 실무 그룹에 참여해 더 자세한 논의를 하겠다”고 답했다.

경기도는 모든 산업에 인공지능(AI)이 도입될 것으로 보고 이를 뒷받침하기 위한 데이터센터를 민간투자를 유치해 구축하는 방안을 검토 중이다.
김동연 지사는 이어 구글 본사를 방문, 엠케이 팔모어(MK Palmore) 구글 클라우드 정보보호 디렉터, 윤진성 선임 연구원, 김선식 구글클라우드 부문장 등과 경기도 AI 스타트업과 인재 육성 협력 방안 등을 주제로 대화를 나눴다.
김동연 지사는 이날 오전 미국 동부에 위치한 세계적 기술기업과 화상 미팅을 갖고 경기도 투자를 독려했다.

Senior Vice President Shanker Trivedi said, “For both data centers, NVIDIA can provide the necessary solutions. “I will participate in the working group and have a more detailed discussion,” he said.
Gyeonggi Province believes that artificial intelligence (AI) will be introduced to all industries and is considering ways to attract private investment and build a data center to support it.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon then visited Google headquarters and had a conversation with MK Palmore, Google Cloud information protection director, senior researcher Jin-seong Yoon, and Google Cloud division head Sun-sik Kim on topics such as ways to cooperate with AI startups in Gyeonggi-do and talent development.
