신계용 과천시장이 지난 2월 11일 시청 로비에서 ‘주요 현안사업 보고회’를 갖고, 교육환경 개선, 대중교통 인프라 확충, 환경 인프라 현대화 등 시민 삶의 질을 높이기 위한 핵심 사업을 적극 추진할 계획을 밝혔다.

신 시장은 특히 교육환경 구조 개선과 관련해 “적정 규모의 학생 수 유지와 남녀 성비 불균형 해소를 목표로 고등학교 교육 환경 구조 개선에 주력하겠다”고 말했다. 이를 위해 과천시는 지난해 12월부터 1월까지 학부모와 관내 고등학교 교장 간 간담회를 주선, 공감대를 형성하고, 과천시의 주도로 학생과 학부모, 학교 및 교육청 등과 함께 ‘교육구조 개선 협의체’를 구성해 이달 중 출범한다. 3월 이후 관련 연구 용역에 착수해 근본적인 해결책이 마련되도록 총력을 다할 계획.
