의왕도시공사(사장 노성화) 조류생태과학관이 왕송호수에서 수리과의 흰꼬리수리(Haliaeetus albicilla)를 카메라에 포착했다. 흰꼬리수리는 환경부가 멸종위기야생생물 1급으로 지정·관리하고 있는 희귀 동물.

의왕도시공사 조류생태과학관은 왕송호수일대에서 철새도래 생태 환경 모니터링 활동 중에 흰꼬리수리를 발견해 촬영에 성공했다.

흰꼬리수리는 유라시아 대륙 북부지역의 겨울 추위를 피해 한반도를 찾아 월동하는 철새로써 다 자란 성조는 몸길이 85cm~95cm에 이르는 육중한 크기를 자랑하며 전체적으로 균일한 갈색몸통에 부채모양의 흰꼬리깃털의 외형적 특징을 가지고 있다.

기후변화나 서식지 환경파괴에 민감한 철새들의 생태특징을 고려할 때 흰꼬리수리의 왕송호수 도래는 성공적인 먹이활동과 생존을 위한 적합한 장소임을 의미하는 장기적인 중요 요소가 된다. 조류생태과학관 학예연구사는 왕송호수를 찾은 다양한 겨울철새들이 늦어도 금주 내 서식지로 다시 북상할 채비를 마칠 것으로 예상했다.
