과천시가 지식정보타운 내 문화체육시설 건립을 위한 행정안전부 중앙투자심사에서 재심사 끝에 ‘조건부 추진’ 통과 결정을 받았다고 지난 7월 3일 밝혔다.

과천시는 오랜 준비 끝에 올해 9월 착공, 2027년 7월 개관을 목표로 해당 사업을 본격 추진될 수 있게 됐다.

지식정보타운 문화체육시설은 지역 주민은 물론, 전 시민이 이용할 수 있는 복합문화공간으로 조성될 예정이며, 다목적 체육관과 수영장, 헬스장, 북카페 등 다양한 시설이 들어설 계획이다.

이 사업은 2021년 2월 경기도 투자심사에서 ‘조건부 추진’으로 통과돼 실시설계에 착수했으나, 총사업비가 최초 대비 30% 이상 증가하고 200억 원을 초과함에 따라 행정안전부 중앙투자심사 대상에 해당돼 재심사가 필요하게 됐다.

과천시는 지난 중앙투자심사에서 ‘재검토’ 의견을 받았으나, 이후 사업 필요성과 당위성을 강조하고 심사 보완자료 제출, 관계기관과의 지속적인 협의를 통해 ‘조건부 추진’ 결정을 이끌어냈다.

과천시는 이 사업을 통해 시민들의 여가와 건강을 증진시키는 생활 인프라를 확충하고, 지식정보타운의 정주 여건을 획기적으로 개선할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.
