안양시의회가 시민들이 의회의 역할을 보다 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 상임위원회 명칭을 전면 개편하며 ‘시민 중심 의정’ 강화에 나섰다.

안양시의회는 지난 제308회 임시회에서 「안양시의회 교섭단체 및 위원회 구성과 운영에 관한 조례」와 「안양시의회 사무기구 및 사무분장 규칙」이 통과됨에 따라, 2월 24일부터 의회 내 3개 상임위원회의 명칭을 변경해 시행한다고 밝혔다.

이번 개편은 기존 위원회 명칭이 현재 집행기관 조직 체계와 변화하는 행정 환경을 충분히 반영하지 못한다는 의견을 반영해 추진됐다. 의회는 다양한 의견 수렴을 거쳐 각 위원회의 역할과 소관 업무를 시민들이 직관적으로 이해할 수 있도록 명칭을 조정했다.

이에 따라 시정 전반의 정책 기획과 행정 업무를 담당하는 ‘총무경제위원회’는 ‘기획행정위원회’로 명칭이 변경된다. 정책 기획과 행정 기능을 보다 명확히 드러내겠다는 취지다.

보건과 환경 분야를 담당하던 ‘보사환경위원회’는 ‘복지환경위원회’로 바뀐다. 기존의 ‘보사(보건·사회)’라는 용어 대신 시민 체감도가 높은 ‘복지’ 개념을 전면에 내세워 시민 삶의 질 향상과 환경 정책에 집중할 계획이다.

또 도시 개발과 건설 업무를 맡았던 ‘도시건설위원회’는 ‘도시교통위원회’로 변경된다. 이는 도시 개발뿐 아니라 시민 이동권 보장과 교통 정책 등 현대 도시의 핵심 현안을 폭넓게 다루겠다는 의미를 담고 있다.
